Tracker vs Bulldog

I can't tell you anything from personal experience about the Bulldog as I never owned one. I can tell you abouit the Taurus Tracker in a 4" as I was very pleased with mine. Shooting .44 Spl was my general practice and mine was comfortable to shoot, reliable, and had a good trigger. The occasional 240 grain .44 mg fired from my Tracker was comfortable and accurate. I can highly recommend the gun based on my experience. If .44 Special is enough for you I can also highly recommend the Interarms Rossi Model 720. I have owned three of these guns but am presently downsizing and sold off 2 of them. The last Model 720 will stay with me to the end.
So, I give a thumbs up for the Taurus Tracker and the Obsolete Rossi M720 , If I had to choose I would have to go with the Tracker as it will handle standard 240 grain .44 mag ammo without a problem. Nice to have if you hike in large bear country. ( I believe .44 Spl is fine for Black bear)

That does sound a wonderful endorsement for the Taurus, but I usually stick around home (MN, too), so I don't encounter much larger than a black bear. I have been very near wolves (VERY fresh signs) but never spotted them in the woods.

This Charter Arms 44spl Boomer at 17oz , has all but took over my pocket carry

I feel that is one of the most functional CC firearms I've ever seen. Ever since they rolled out with it, I've wanted to get my hands on one. That thing is a no frills, all business belly gun that packs a serious wallop. Nothing to catch or jam, 5 rounds of "get off of me" and loaded with these fellas here:

There's no need to worry about expansion when your spitting out a hard piece of lead at a good 7-800 fps from that Boomer at point blank range.

I like the look of these !!!!

Well I can afford a Smith or Ruger, but despite the rough edges of my CA, I just like it better than offerings by those companies. It's honest in what it promises, and it's light enough to carry all day.

I can't say I like it BETTER than my Smiths or Rugers, but like I said, it just works.

I agree, some firearms are simple tools with a purpose. A hammer doesn't have to be pretty to do a job well. My Bulldog does its job well, it's no beauty, but I don't mind it.

Any Bulldog 44spl I have ever had (6ish) over the years .. including the one I have now, will handle ANY standard pressure 44spl loads ... any

But no +P 44spl full house loads, none...

If one thing Taurus seems has right... It's the Tracker line ... (Besides the G2's)
But no full house 44mag loads...

The Charter will be lighter (a lot) and smaller ...
Charter has the BEST customer service and a lifetime warranty

Taurus has the worst and 1-year warranty... U buy it... It's yours...

If you want a carry revolver, for normal 44 spl loads. And a great CS and a lifetime warranty get the Charter

If you want a larger heavier 44spl revolver, that shoots 44mag .. And questionable customer service and a one year warranty... Taurus is your pick...

I just noticed you made the right choice

I'm sorta waiting for Charter to stick a 4-inch barrel on the 41 Mag.
I'd be on that quicker than a chicken on a Junebug!

@dawei ... Im sorta impatient, and may move on a 41mag with the 2.5 inch barrel ...
But I think the a 4 inch barrel would best suit the 41 mag ..
Thats why I went with a 4 inch barrel with the 357mag..

I like the Taurus (S&W) design better. I like the customer service of Charter Arms better.

I've noticed that Underwood seems to be making their own version of those BB loads. I was looking up the ultra hot 44 magnum +P+ loads and found that Underwood is making the same thing. The cool part is that they're far cheaper than BB's often insane pricing and by everything I've read, Underwood seems to be good to go.

Underwood is great company to deal with .. and they publish accurate real life velocities.

I do not have a Tracker but am very pleased with my Classic Bulldog. It is most often in my pocket when I am out training bird dogs. It came with nice wood grips but I put CA rubber grips on for better control.

The Tracker’s have never had a 1 year warranty.
I miss spoke ... At one time ,last year?
Taurus only had a one year warranty..
Now they have brought back the lifetime warrenty ( for the original owner)
I also have heard there turn around is quicker than in the past with warrenty work..

I have always had great luck with Taurus....

@Buckeye63 - select Taurus models (like the Spectrum and G2’s) did have only a one year warranty for a short time. Most have been replaced with a limited lifetime (original owner only). Most of the revolvers were unlimited lifetime, and transitioned straight to limited lifetime.

I had a plan... Then I saw the nitride bulldog. I now have said bulldog, and am squeezing away on snapcaps. Also have a silver dollar on the way from Simply Rugged.

Those CA are great values. I still haven't gotten a Bulldog since I probably won't have garage space to reload until early next year. So far, CA is two for two in satisfaction for me. I just took my Undercover .38 DAO to the range, and it's a tack driver when it comes to combat distances. Even without the SA capability, until I warmed up to it I was outshooting the groups of a new 5" 1911 with the little DAO .38. Now, I got the 1911 to behave and it quickly shifted in the lead. However, for days when a pocket .38 makes the most sense, the UC is getting the nod. It's the first lightweight .38 special I can shoot better than a .380. My .380 have been regulated to invisible pocket carry. The UC stoked full of the ARX rounds is a winner.

That said, I think a boomer or bulldog could displace it on a hiking trip;) For now, though, I'm perfectly happy with my .38 and .45 acp Charters.
