Those who forget history - just to go there.

There has been support of AWBs from prominent Republicans for a long time. The use of terms like weapons of war, destruction, etc. is not new.

Bob Dole - candidate for Pres. supported an AWB
Mitt Romney - candidate for Pres. supported an AWB and use the weapons of ... language
GWB - would sign a renewal
Warren Berger - conservative SCOTUS chief justice - 2nd Amend. is BS
Robert Bork - fail conservative candidate for SCOTUS - another 2nd is BS type.
Trump - president - against EBRS

King is just one of many. Now you may say that NOW, they have changed their views. News flash - they say anything to get elected and stay in power and the money. True believers of any politician are fools. Note how in the first two years of Trump, the GOP put forward bills and did not go to the wall for them as they did for other pet proposals (like Taxes, go after Obamacare). They want to keep the threat alive for the bucks - send a check.

Today, Bernie Sanders is being attacked as a gun nut by Parkland families for not perfect gun control purity.

As liberal as New York is, the only way a Republican got into office is to be as liberal as the Liberals.
Peter King has a ACU score of about 67 percent lifetime but has moved left in 2016-17 to scores averaging around 50 percent.
If you factored out New York City, the rest of the state would not be a liberal bastion. (This is similar to the situation in, say, Illinois.) King's district is in suburban Long Island, and is not in the city proper. There are lots of Republicans in King's district, but they are upscale, never-Trump Republicans and not populist Trump supporters. These are exactly the kind of people that defected en masse from the GOP in Orange County, California, in the last election and flipped several congressional seats to the Democrats. King is desperately trying to save his seat but he is incredibly endangered. This reminds me of the liberal Republican Connie Morella who held the congressional seat in Montgomery County, Maryland, far longer than she was expected to.

Labeling a Republican a Rino is too simplistic, Politicians by their very nature are appeasers, political chameleons.

debate and compromise are tools of politicians while pressure and money are tools of lobbyists.

RKBA should be above politicians and lobbyists but its not, lobbyists use for fundraising and politicians use it as a cash cow and citizens get caught up in the ebb and flow of the game.

The reason current politicians never really “fix” anything of importance is the game is about money and power not public service.

Labeling a Republican a Rino is too simplistic,
This. The way the parties work in Congress, even a lukewarm Republican (or Democrat) still represents a vote to organize the House (or the Senate) under the control of his nominal party. Control by the party leadership is a huge thing. A search for purity is ultimately self-defeating.

The Best Congressman money can buy. Lol, assault weapons? What they really want is for NO One to have protection when a assault happens and that is fine with Ol Pete. As long as he is paid on time. Pete says it's no big deal to him. He doesn't shop in Walmart any way.
Besides this, Ol Pete takes his marching orders from De Blasio and he sure does not want to get off De Blasio's Christmas Card list.

Can't say I'm surprised. After the Gabrielle Giffords shooting in Arizona, I saw Congressman King on television proposing a law to prohibit anyone being armed within 1000' of an elected official. If that had passed, I'm not sure how anyone wishing to comply with the law could identify whether someone was an elected official from a minimum of 1001' feet away. Having seen that fellow on TV quite a few times, he doesn't seem too bright to me.....

He has probably visited Epstein Island, and received vital information that he should strongly support new gun laws?
