This is the same build I asked for help with and you guys were great. Thanks. The budget was and is $1,600. I am being asked to do the build. He has the striped upper and lower. From the help here it seems these are DPMS clones. I asked for help with the upper kit and followed a lead here. When I got his upper I found that it was not able to have a dust cover or assist. There goes $15 for parts and about the same for shipping. My bad. I had thought that a Krieger barrel and the JP BCG would be great choices. Now not so much. With a decent trigger I can see the budget being blown and I don't think his parts marry well with Krieger and JP. He wants to hunt with it and be able to shoot 1,000 yards with accuracy. Well don't we all. I don't think he's ever shot a .308 much less 1,000 yards. Someone here mentioned that these clones will at times not take all the pins from a lower parts kit. Whomever that was, your right. I thought it was the parts kit until trying the parts on an AR10 of my own. - Black Rain, for whatever that's worth - So I would once more like to ask for help with this build. Barrel, BCG and trigger with costs below the Krieger, JP threshold. And I was thinking of a two stage trigger. something like a 2# x 2#? He has a stock, I will mill something for the muzzle. BTW Krieger was great at stopping the order when they were made aware of the other parts. Nice guy there, Mike.

Barrel - Faxon 20" Big Gunner

BCG - Toolcraft NiB

Trigger - Geissele Super Dynamic - Enhanced (or LaRue MBT-2S if you need to conserve money)

Muzzle Brake - Precision Armament M72 Severe-Duty Muzzle Brake (completely eliminates recoil)

Buffer Spring - JP Rifles Custom Centerless Ground and Polished Operating Spring

Adjustable Gas Block - SLR Rifleworks

Keep an eye out for Labor Day sale prices, especially the Geissele trigger.

What made you think the Krieger + JP combination wouldn’t work for the DPMS LR308 platform?

It sure might blow your budget out of the water, but the last I knew, which is to say the last rifles I built last year using Krieger barrels (and confirmed as still the same on their website’s FAQ section just now), the only barrels they sell with the JP bolts are DPMS platform barrels. Has that recently changed?

If they haven’t changed, then the only DPMS incompatibility potential would be the Gen II’s, and to my knowledge, nobody else is cloning DPMS Gen II’s.

Sales really help, depending on how much of a hurry you are to get it finished. First two things I bought were the barrel and trigger, because it was Thanksgiving, and companies were having Black Friday sales... However, it took me like 8 months to piece mine together... I got a 14" BA Hanson barrel, and a Geissele SSA-E trigger. (Yes it's over 16" with the pin, and welded Surefire Warcomp.)

Varminterror, First, you rule! All my respect Sir. It's not my money for this build. If it were mine I'd see this as one of the top ways to go. But it's just not my money. Mike, the rep at Krieger, who reminds me a bit of you in that he, like you will speak to me as a teacher/friend. You both know full well that your knowledge and abilities far outshine mine and yet show kindness in your counsel. Mike tells me that it remains a marriage with JP principally a matter of quality control. Example, a BCG of questionable quality is sent in and when the gun performs poorly Krieger is made to be the fall guys. As for the .308 choice, that is my buddy's choice. He wants a .308. There's an old adage that I used to teach in sales, "A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still." I had a friend who bought fleet trucks and found out the trucks would last longer if he let the drivers pick what they wanted. A Ford guy will destroy a Chevy to prove a Ford is a better truck. I can see the same thing happen if I try to talk him into a 6.5CM. Space Ghost - love that! GO Johnny Quest GO! - 14" see, a bit short for 1,000yds? Yes? No? I do think Larue is a good trigger. For the $$$ I'm leaning this way. Thanks.

Yes, it's WAY short for 1,000 yds. Mine isn't built for that. It's just a patrol rifle / battle rifle for if the S hits TF. I was merely answering the part about buying stuff on sale... IF he wasn't in a hurry. Then, I used the post to show off my gun, as I don't have a 1,000 yd gun. Probably never will. No need where I'm at. No ranges to do it at anyway, even if I wanted to...

To each their own. It's funny how the market on these things have changed. A basic no frills AR10 rifle with moa guarantee is $600 these days. Given the buyer's inexperience and the likelihood of parts changes down the road as people get familiar with the platform and develop their shooting, I would question the choices of components based on our recommendations. What folks like here may not fit him well while pushing the costs of the build up. *Just my 2 cents*
