I favor my second issue Colt Cobra. A smidge larger than a J frame, 20% more capacity on board, and easier to hold than a J frame.
I did exactly that and once my wife tried the M&P Shield 9mm her Ruger LCR went away very quickly. It's much less punishing to shoot.
a ruger lcr wasnt ment for heavy recoil to be comfortable. mine is a 38 special. shoot it rarely, it is my pocket defense gun. when i get one for my wife it will be a 22 long rifle. now if any of you can recommend a small revolver like the ruger lcr in .22 long rifle that has as smooth a trigger i will check it out. i know uberti colts front and backwards and with a blindfold on, but nothing else. im open, let me know what you know.
Rimfire requires a stronger mainspring to ignite the priming compound and will have a very hard double-action trigger pull. A .32 can have better sectional density than 38/.357" with a lightweight bullet and will penetrate better at lower velocities. Still, I think all those miniature guns are a terrible choice. They're very poor weapons to fight with when you're having the worst day of your life. Get a .357 L frame heavy enough that fighting with effective ammo doesn't create problems from recoil. I said it before, but 3" L frame is a pocket gun. Always use a holster in the pocket. The holster must fit the gun AND the pocket. There are plenty of other good belt guns to fight with too.
Whatever you do for you or your wife, don't shoot it rarely. Best place to start is a duty-size gun and lots of classes and practice. Carry the same gun you train and practice with the most.

I have to say I have been blessed with my small guns. While my 2 Pico, and 2 Nano's will always be with me. I love the Kahr's both the CW380 and the CM9. And of course the little Keltec P32 will just about beat anything for light carry.
But, I have to say, I love shooting the small revolvers. As Hickcock45 said, "there is just something about them". For me, they are just down right fun to shoot. The LCR9mm gets shot often and the LCR22 is a main staple for fun times. I have no problem with the recoil of the 9mm. Just the right amount of recoil that is this side of pleasant before going over to the dark side. I can shoot a lot of rounds in one session.
And I never believed that 22.cal would be good for defense. That is until I started shooting 8 fast rounds of ammo out of the LCR22. And it is does not fail.
I carry the little light weight 38 more than the 9mm because of the light weight.
I buy all my ammo from "Target Sports" CLUB. One of the best investments I have made. Get to try out so many different ammunition's at a great saving. I have saved well over my $100.00 yearly membership.

If it's just me alone, even on a hot August day, I'll pull my shirttail out, if I have to go out in public, and carry a belt gun. People tend not to see a single action, a New Service, or a second model hand ejector with a 6.5 inch barrel. Pocket pistols get relegated to my offside pocket.
On a date or where business casual is expected, they still won't notice the gun, but women, especially, will object to the untucked shirt.
If the sun is shining, and I feel good about humanity, the brotherhood of man, I'll slip the Smith 60-0 in the pocket, or an early Cobra. On usual days, if I'm reduced to pocket carry, I'll take the heavier Colt Detective Special. The lighter guns are perfectly accurate, but in my dotage I do better rapid fire with a few ounces extra weight.

I have been shooting a lot of Buckshot lately with two new guns and getting ready for Deer season. Trying out different ammo, ranges, chokes etc. Nice to be able to buy one box or two or many. Here is a pic of just one shipment. Always shipped in great condition. Even ordering 1 single box of ammo in 9mm at around $8.00 with free shipping is a huge convenience.

Glock 42 all day long in a Boraii Eagle pocket holster. Why? It's a little larger/heavier than most pocket .380's. Less snappy. Smooth as butter to shoot/fire & accurate with little effort.

When I pocket carry these days, it's mostly for a real quick trip by myself with my LCP II. Sometimes I'll just slip an Airweight or LCR in my pocket if I'm feeling the wheel.
I used to drop my PM9 into the pocket, but truth be told the fully loaded weight of that tiny nine at just under 20 oz made me think I should just go to the belt. Mostly that is a G48 these days at 26 oz exactly. I have an XDS 3.3 9mm that I carried regularly for several years, but the G48 carries just as well, and beats it in round count.

I've replied to a similar thread before on another forum IIRC. IMO it depends on the size of your pocket. I think LCP or J-frame at the largest and smaller. LCP/J-frame, SeeCamp, or NAA revolver.
Pocket carried Smith and Wesson J Frames for many many years.
Walther PPK too.
Seecamp 32 when it was king.
North American Arms 22 Magnum mini revolvers also.

This lcp is my pocket gun, however most often it is carried iwb in a Desantis SofTuck holster
mrs' lcp in the pocket holster, mine in the Desantis.the reason my wife and i have each a ruger lcr is this. a semi auto is prone now and then to jam or fail. if it is at the time you need it your dead in the water. our lcr/s will never jam or fail. mine is a 38 special and my wife has a 22 mag, with a purple grip of course. i really like the .22 mag better that my 38 special. it really smacks the steel man target we have set in the yard just off of the deck hard. also if she misses an attacker the noise of that thing will scare the life out of him. im sold on the .22 mag. im old and i was only raised on revolvers. in the military i had a choise of either carying a revolver or a semi auto. i was the only one in the group that carried a revolver. i felt it was their when i needed it with out fail.

Never assume that a revolver will "never" jam. I had an SP101 that locked up on me one day while dryfiring. I'm pretty certain I short stroked the trigger, but if it happens in practice it can just as easily happen in a high stress situation.

I agree with bassjam! My EDC is an LCR357 and I also utilize an LCR22WMR in my defense routine. While neither have ever given me any operational problems.. I'm diligent in my practice of keeping them clean and at ready. I wear them either in a IWB Kydex holster or DeSantis pocket holster. This carry method subjects them to high humidity and lint. I make a weekly effort to wipe them down and thoroughly inspect them so as to minimize problems.
On a side note...I also had my SP101 cylinder bind up on
me at the range. I had been out the week before and put 50 or so down range...afterwards I gave it a thorough wipe down but no cleaning. Lesson learned. When I take the girls out now.. they get a bath when we get home.

The 365 would be way too heavy for myself in a pocket my gosh almost 18 oz. I love the Kahr CM 9 and that is lighter by about 3 oz and that does not go into my pocket. . Usually the only thing that goes into my Pocket is a Pico, CW380 or P32. I like small light guns, I own the LCR 9mm but carry the Smith 642. And I am seriously thinking about a Keltec PF9 at 12 oz. Now that is IMO innovation. I hope the next fad that comes around is more light weight 9mm's.
