What's the story on the Mossberg 464?

I have had the Davidson Exclusive Mossberg 464 Brush Gun for a bit now. Grey laminate furniture with a silver marine cote finish that looks like stainless. I really like it. With the short barrel it has a bit of a bark. It’s a 2 moa carbine, maybe a bit less. My intent was to turn it into a "scout rifle" with the XS Sights ghost ring sights and white stripe front post along with the lever scout mount. Have not done it yet but still think I will.

I get the feeling that it’s the Hi Point of leaver actions. That it’s a rifle the masses like to hate on. Lots of bad reviews out there, but lots of good ones too. Of course I have a sample of one, but that one has run just fine.

I had a standard one a few years back that I sold during a money pinch. No issues, and I was able to get decent groups with an aperture sight and a variety of Hornady bullets from 110 to 180 grain. I had 400 rounds through mine without any concerns (and liking the reloading flexibility) before I regrettably sold it.

I own a Mossberg 464 standard model. Picked it up used from a fellow that had mounted an EER scope on it, I bet he had trouble hitting anything! I mounted an inexpensive scope on (one with proper eye relief) and took it to the range.

It shoots quite well, got several 1" groups (and more than a few larger ones due to user error) shooting from a rest at 100 yards.

On the negative side the wood to metal fit on the buttstock is not great, that lever can be a bit of a finger pincher if one is not careful.

I mainly picked this up to use it as a backup/loaner hunting rifle, I figure it will work well for my intended use.
