They are the only place for 50 miles in my area that has a decent selection and sane prices. This is going to seriously affect thousands and thousands of consumers.

Trey,

Not sure where you live, but if legal, you should really give online ammo vendors a shot. I find them so much more convenient and price focused. My favorites are:

www.sgammo.com and

https://www.targetsportsusa.com/

It rarely takes more than two or three business days from order to delivery from SG Ammo. Targetsports can take a week or so.

Take care

With Academy Sports a mile from Walmart here, Academy would have less incentive to offer any discounts.

No state tax was paid on my recent 1,000 - rds. case of 7.62x39. Shipped from OH to TN. It was only ammo cost + about $30 shipping.

You don’t need Walmart or Academy to save (even more money) if you live in certain states——-and use a computer. Gunbot is the secret code word.

A week rarely goes by that I don’t buy something from a Walmart. I don’t recall ever buying handgun ammo there.

I’m not a historian, but I believe people had access to handgun ammo prior to the rise of Walmart. Perhaps they can return to those sources. Or perhaps (except for CA) then http://www.targtsports.com and http://www.sgammo.com can expect a surge of new business.

I like the bulk Federal aluminum, shot up some .45acp and 9mm this morning.

Just bought a box(50)WWB jhp 180gr .40 for $21.00 cheap carry ammo.

I don’t shop online because of no CC so this is going to hurt.

I too emailed Walmart...I may not spend much on ammunition at Walmart but I sure did spend a lot on other items when I was there. I will be going to another store for my none ammunition needs. Definitely cutting down my Walmart visits. Let Walmart become the next Dicks as they are already losing out to Amazon. Make no sense why Walmart would take such a risk.

Walmart's contact method below:
https://corporate.walmart.com/store-corporate-feedback

-select company feedback then follow instructions. you will be required to pic a store but email goes to Corp.

I have watched as Walmart has moved into my city and have destroyed many small businesses over the years. I haven’t stepped foot in one for a long time and never plan to.
I buy handgun ammo at Walmart all the time as well as firearm cleaning supplies. Also, from what I read, Wal-mart is only asking customers not to open carry, and they are only banning 223/556 and 7.62x39 type of ammo. They are NOT banning all handgun ammo...

For those of you who are going to boycott Wal-Mart, are you also going to boycott all the majority of other stores, supermarkets, and businesses that NEVER sold firearms, ammo, and/or allowed any for of carry?

I personally don't blame Wal-Mart. They are a business who is trying to appease two competing demographics. They just hadvan idiot commit a mass shooting 9f their customers in their store, and shortly there after, with the support of many in the gun community, had another idiot open carry an AR into their store which shut down the store, scared customers/employees, and cost the business money.... I'm not mad at Wal-Mart, I'm mad at the idiots who are going to Wal-Mart with firearms to settle their political differences...

So you're only pro small business, and anti-corporation/big business? Wal-Mart has created jobs, and people benefit from lower prices thus they keep more money in their pockets... Wal-Mart also didn't destory small businesses, the people who decided to patronize at Wal-Mart instead of the small business did.

Their CEO went the xtra mile in his statement calling for "common sense" gun reforms and said he would use his position to advocate for more restrictions.

THAT makes this personal, not just business.

They are NOT banning all handgun ammo..
From the link in post 1:
"Today, we're sharing the decisions we've made that go further: After selling through our current inventory commitments, we will discontinue sales of short-barrel rifle ammunition such as the .223 caliber and 5.56 caliber that, while commonly used in some hunting rifles, can also be used in large capacity clips on military-style weapons; We will sell through and discontinue handgun ammunition; and We will discontinue handgun sales in Alaska, marking our complete exit from handguns."

I believe that I have bought ammo from WalMart on precisely one occasion.
I had to wait over fifteen minutes for a salesperson, who promptly told me that she was not trained to sell firearms or ammunition. She called the manager, who said that a trained person would be sent to the sporting goods department immediately.
Immediately turned out to be about twenty minutes. This specialist couldn't help me immediately, however, as the manager had the keys to the ammo cabinet.
Keys retrieved and ammo selected, I was "perp-walked" up to the sales register, watched carefully as I paid for my purchases and allowed to go my own way..

Never again

I don't buy my ammo at Walmart, never have.
What I don't reload, myself, I "shop around" and buy online.

Leftists in control of Walmart? I realize this ammo decision by Walmart is a shock, but that's not even close to true.

Well, apparently the CEO has now written a letter to congress asking for gun control.

I really don't care if they stop carrying gun stuff - I wasn't buying that there anyway. But I do care about them becoming an advocate for removing rights.

I don't know if that's actually "leftist," as I think that term is losing all meaning - but it is definitely not in favor of individual rights.

This is what happens when leftists gain control of corporations, and those corporations gain control of the majority of goods for sale in the US.

They are doing this to appeal to a broader base, a base that thinks its a little weird that walmart sells ammo but not “violent” video games or “explicit” music...

Plus, we had a guy in Springfield Mo walking around with body armor and an AR pistol slung.

Walmart is a business, they can and should do as they please. They are probably correct in that the revenue generated by 5.56 and pistol ammo sales is less than the $ lost because people that don’t like guns won’t shop there.

Guns and ammo are really low margin. Im surprised they carried it as long as they did given the training and liability involved with staff.

''we will discontinue sales of short-barrel rifle ammunition such as the .223 caliber and 5.56 caliber that, while commonly used in some hunting rifles, can also be used in large capacity clips on military-style weapons...''

What an over-fried piece of codfish this clam is. I guess the 300B.O. that is currently as popular as 223 is ''Ok''. As is 308. And Valykrie. And...and...

That means if I want to buy handgun ammo I have to drive an hour to Pensacola to Academy or get screwed locally. I guess I better start opening up the 3 emails I get every day from PSA to see what's on sale moving forward.
