I have loaded Nosler's VG 123gr FB tipped .310" for a Ruger American Ranch with good results.
I know the customer service manager at Nosler and asked him about a year ago why Nosler does not make a bullet suitable for deer hunting for the 7.62x39 cartridge, he said I don't know but it sounds like a good idea.
I was looking at the Nosler 2019 product catalog and to my surprise they are making a .310" 123gr ballistic tip and a 123gr copper e-tip both are boat tail design with polymer tips. I hope to get some factory 2nds and try these out :)

That would be nice. I like the Sierra pro hunters to. If I can find any the cheap ppu bullets work good. I am glad my cz shoots steel case so good. But like to work up a bit hunting load.

Maybe sps will have some factory seconds.

Current Varmageddon (VG) 7.62x39 is a polymer tipped bullet, but flat base, does not really matter if flat base or boat tail for 7.62x39 while it is not for long range anyway. Flat base maybe with even better accuracy at the 7.62x39 range (<300 yds). I hope they would do a clearance on the FB when the new boat tails come out, I bought my VG 7.62x39 at 9c a piece when they were on sale couple years ago. Should have bought more!

While it is very exciting to see more medium game bullet options available for the IMO underrated 7.62x39, I will most likely stick to the .310 Speer Gold Dots. The price on the component is reasonable and my pistol and carbine both shoot that bullet very very well. And my informal waterjug tests have shown great performance.

have you bit any of them Alabama deer with the gold dot?. I shot a big buck down there when I was 15, with a speer hotcor did very well. Receiving to sickness another wad story.

I haven't hit any game with them yet but this year I plan to. The 2 deer I killed with the 7.62x39 were both shot with the .308 diameter 135gr Hornady FTX that was designed for the 300blk. Both were does at close range ~30 yards one bullet exited and the other didn't. Both deer ran at the shot and went the standard 30-40 yards before falling over. Not excellent performance but more than adequate. I'm hoping the bonded Gold Dot will add some penetration so I'll get consistent exits.

Do you shoulder shoot?

Do you shoulder shoot?

I don't shoulder shoot with the 7.62x39 but some larger calibers I use I shoulder shoot. I hit the 2 deer both behind the shoulder for the classic double lung shot. One shot truth be told was a touch back as it was quartering towards me pretty hard. I got one lung, the liver, and popped the gut sack and exited. The other shot got both lungs and didn't exit.
