I've heard enough good things about the American and enough bad things about the Mini-30 to decide that the Mini-30 is a Mini-Turdy.

The American is regarded as one of the most accurate 7.62x39 rifles ever made. Other than an AK or SKS, the only other semi auto x39 rifle I would think about is the PSA AR's that use AK mags.

I got one of the windham SRC's in 762x39 when they were less then $500 new. Thing is flawless. I will be testing them side by side at 100 yard soon. It will be an unfair advantage to the windham because it was a 1x scope and the ruger has a 3-9x40. but they will be bench rested. They both shoot VERY accurate.

Between the two (not having the CZ 527 Carbine in the mix), I would go with the Ruger American Ranch Rifle in 7.62x39. I only have one rifle chambered for this round (an Hungarian FEG SA 85M), and a lot of ammo and I think the Ruger would make for an excellent gun to go with it.

I will vouch for the CZ 527, I did not wanted to have but since and AK came home I said let have same ammo for the Russian family.
Long story short it is dandy carbine that shoot perfect for the 7.62x39, not kick no very noise with rusky ammo.
Recently paid $430 or so with Buds.
Impressed very comfortable and POA and POI at 50-75 yards goes by the hand (iron sights).

I appreciate everyone taking the time to comment. I have a date tomorrow at the range with the Howa mini-action and the Ruger. Am taking 500 rounds, 250 for each. That should give me a decent feel for what to get. Once again, I appreciate everyone's time. Will advise what is ordered and will post pictures after I receive it.

Once again I'd like to thank everyone for their input. :)

I spent some quality time with the Howa and the Ruger and have decided to go with the Ruger. I liked the Howa action but I shot the Ruger better. So much so in fact that I have decided to order two of them, one in 7.62 x 39 and the other in 5.56.

I don't do much over 300 yards shot wise, with 100-200 the norm. I'm almost 70 now and them peepers ain't what they used to be even with glasses. I'd like to top the 7.62 x 39 with a scope dedicated to the round and the 5.56 with something 1-4 X, both in the $300 range. Once again, I'd appreciate any suggestions from the Forum. I appreciate your time.

CFE BLK I can definitely give you but I'm partial to the 123 Speer Gold Dots over the SST's. The SSTs are accurate but I prefer bonded bullets for medium game.
The Gold Dot, at 150gr, is about .503 BC vs. .415 BC of the SST, SD's are similar. I've been wanting to try some 150gr anyway so maybe I'll start with the Gold Dots

I am unaware of Speer Gold Dot offering a .310 diameter in a 150 grain. Also I don't believe there is a .310 diameter 150 grain SST. In my experience the heavier .308 diameter bullets, which I'm almost positive your looking at, most likely won't be accurate in a barrel setup to shoot .310 and also the .308 diameter bullets may not get pushed fast enough for reliable expansion.

Mine shoots .308” just as well as .310”. And it is a .310” bore rifle. In fact I have 3 rifles ranging from .310 to .314” bores that all shoot better with .308 than the .310 or .311” bullets I’ve tried. Your results may vary.

I like the 125 grain nosler accubond in my 7.62x39. Been meaning to try the gold dots.

I have a Mini14 & 30, also a AR15 in .223 & 7.62 x 39 also a Ruger ranch bolt in 7.62 x 39.
The most accurate is the Ruger ranch - it shoot steelcase with no problems.

Sir, have you scoped your Ranch, and if so, what did you mount?

I have a little 2-7x vortex on my Howa Mini. That power seems nicely suited to the cartridge, and the small scope keeps the good handling of these rifles.
