Rural King

I live in rural Illinois and we have Rural King stores and Big R stores near us. We also have Tractor Supply stores. The Rural King stores in our area sell firearms and ammunition. The Big R stores sell ammunition only - no firearms.

Rural King is my go to place for firearm stuff and ammo as far as brick and mortar stores go. Their firearm prices are usually decent and they have some really nice sales occasionally. Their ammo prices are ok, nothing great but not terrible.

It is great that Rural King supports us, but remember that ammunition that Wal-Mart won't sell us is available at our fingertips. If you can conveniently get it from RK, do so. If you can't, order it delivered to your door, often cheaper than any Brick & Mortar can sell it.

We went grocery shopping yesterday, never set foot in MaoMart or spent a penny there.

Got everything we needed at Dollar General and Ruler. Open carry my 1911 all the way with nary a word, just like always. Ruler didn't have any horse radish but the manager said they usually carry it, they just must be out.

Probably the influx of all the former MaoMart shoppers.

That's too bad. I like Big Rs firearms related layout a little more Rural King.

Thats a shame. have been to about 3 different Big R stores in Illinois, they all had gun counters. Wonder why yours doesnt. Anyway Big R is no more, has been bought out by Stock & Field. So far havent noticed any difference.

I think it looks nicer, but at least comparing the Rural King in Peru, IL and the Big R in Streator, IL (which are about equidistant from me), RK definitely has better prices. Big R probably had a better selection on hand but Rural King does have the RKGuns website which is pretty awesome so to me it's kind of a trade off. I kind of see Big R as a nicer looking RK that comes with a little premium on prices. Although, I guess its Stock and Field now, guess it's been awhile since I've been there.

Referencing the map, there are at least two Rural King stores in Ohio that I'm aware of (Wooster and Springfield). Hopefully, there are more that I don't know about.

I have gotten some fair deals with both places. But you're right, Rural King does keep most their prices down more.

Isn't there a North 40 near you? The ones around here have good deals from time to time.

Yep, North40 is redneck paradise, but the prices are pretty steep on most things. Plus, it's 50 miles South of me. Which, around here, is about average out here for driving to where there are retail choices. If I'm down in Lewiston, I'm usually stopping at Sportsman's Warehouse and buying powder.

The Big R store I frequent is in Robinson, IL. They are part of a 6 store chain ranging across the state of Illinois from the Wabash River to Mississippi river near route 50. As far as I know they have not sold out to another chain but they do not sell firearms.

I've heard good things about Rural King and salute them for their public stand which they are free to express. No Rural Kings around here but we had a Runnings open up locally just over two years ago. They proudly sell firearms, ammo, reloading supplies, and tons of other sporting goods. Along with home, farm, livestock, and many other things. I make it a point to do business there and they are good folks to deal with. Even bought two guns there already. Their headquarters is in Minnesota IIRC and there's a bunch of them between here and there. There is a Wal- Mart closer to me than Runnings but they haven't sold guns for years now and their outdoor dept. can't compare to Runnings, and over the last two years I've become a steady Runnings customer and seldom go to Wal-Mart anymore. The staff at Runnings are very knowledgeable about the products in the department they work in, and that's very uncommon, IMHO, at Wal-Mart.

I've been comparing Rural King to Tractor Supply, lately. RK won the last couple rounds, on price and selection.
