145 CEO's Send Letter to Congress Demanding Action on Gun Control

I read this letter and the comments that went with it. Wow. :cuss: The main phrase that stuck out to me is "common sense gun reform". I'm just about positive that in a room with 10 different people, you'd have 10 different ideas of what "common sense" is. Hey business, I don't care how woke you are, how about some customer service?!

If the New York Times was still a reputable news source, they would have taken that phrase "Doing nothing about America’s gun violence crisis is simply unacceptable" and seen if the data backs up there being an actual crisis.

Exactly. As long as the gun controllers are vague about what they want to do, they poll well. When they cross the line and advocate confiscation, their support drops like a lead balloon. The obvious strategy for the pro-gun side is to expose the confiscators for what they are. The latest trend among the antigunners ("mandatory buybacks") makes this task easy.

Been there and done that already.

We have tried "common sense" gun control/reform in California the past several decades and all it got us was SLOW EROSION to our gun rights/2A. To me, "common sense" gun control/reform is just another phrase for SLOW GUN BAN/CONFISCATION.

As to CEO signing letters, that's just another example of rich elite trying to impose their will on rights of the minority gun owners. I mean, us gun owners don't tell them which brand of toilet paper to wipe their butts with ... right?

And guess what?

CEOs come and go. ;)

And enough is enough and CA gun owners are pushing back and fighting and winning legal battles to reverse/overturn anti gun laws and law makers (So ignore the latest propaganda by antis and focus on what really matters, future of our gun rights/2A - Keep voting in pro gun/2A law makers and presidents) - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...lated-information.849620/page-6#post-11208355

Other CEO's were asked to sign, but declined, presumably to not risk profits.
More like CEOs that signed are already financially independent/well off and could handle any backlash/termination when company/corporate profits take hits from gun owners' boycott (And believe me, they have been proven effective against many companies/corporations) and CEOs that didn't sign are still working on their financial independence and can't afford to get fired. ;)

And I wonder what will speak louder to Congress?

145 CEOs signing canned letter (That's 145 votes) or thousands of voters sending emails/letters/calls to Congress?

145 vs thousands of votes ...

Yup, politicians live and work to get re-elected.

Not any I have ever done business with. Maybe Levis (but no more). And what's with the do something mentality when nobody does anything with the existing laws. People who are ticking clocks, waiting to go off, with everyone around them knowing it with certainty. Yet the can gets kicked down the road until the timer is up and they go off on the innocent. Then they are quoted as "I knew it".

I don't think that's it at all. These CEO's are playing to the soccer moms, and not to gun owners. Same as the politicians. It comes down to potential dollars spent in their stores (or votes, in the case of the politicians). Both business leaders, and politicians, are good at this kind of math. They are more afraid of a soccer mom boycott than a gun owners' boycott. The calculation is changing, and changing rapidly.

So what are some reasons why some of the CEOs declined to sign the letter? (Who knows, there may have been more CEOs that refused/declined to sign than 145 that signed. ;))

Because signing the letter would conflict with their personal beliefs and/or company/corporate interests that superseded above soccer moms?

It's certainly interesting (and appalling) watching left-wingers suddenly fall in love with corporate power in politics. And amusing to watch a lot of right-wingers waking up to the fact that big corporate entities can be just as serious a threat to your freedom of choice as government (in part because of their ability to hijack the government).

Just another attempt of WILL of the majority being imposed on the RIGHTS of the minority.

And why Constitutional Republic form of our government exists instead of Pure Democracy where the majority can impose on the minority.

Our founding fathers got it right.

If the New York Times was still a reputable news source,

Look up some of their news stories from a hundred years ago. Sensationalism, pushing political points of view, and just generally selling copy was what they always were. The color of journalism is generally yellow. Nobody is going to use a platform with such potential for influence to simply tell you what happened and leave it to you to decide what it means.

Believe it, I suppose, if they say there's an earthquake in Turkey. When they try to tell you what it means that demands a level of trust they haven't earned.

The first thing that comes to mind is they realize they have a fiduciary duty to their shareholders.......

I've said for years that guns are inherently not a right-left issue. We need to decouple gun rights from conservatism in general. This is where the NRA is making a huge mistake. By making itself an arm of the Republican party, it gives political cover for everyone who is not a Republican to oppose guns.

What on Earth does corporate antigun activism have to do with conservatism? These CEOs arent advocating for social justice, climate change, single payer health care, abortion, open borders, or eliminating the electoral college.

This document is targeted at all gun owners, not just the Republican ones.

Exactly, thank you very much. I have an older brother who buried himself in Washington, pity his poor soul. He said the reason the last President left so many federal benches open was his pitiful staff thought they'd just pass the buck to Queenie ...rather obvious but I still missed it. Now conservative judges give all American freedoms more chance, so that's what they lost by leaving those slots open. Of course they did so in order to have more time for fun and games, rejoicing in their cush-cush lifestyle at the wonderful Club Fed. (Some come for the pay ...but they stay for the leave.)

Let's take a step back and take a break (And take a DEEP breath).

The antis have been working the state/federal government and the court system to push their agenda of gun ban/confiscation for decades. (Well, two can play that game ;))
the reason the last President left so many federal benches open was his pitiful staff thought they'd just pass the buck to Queenie ...rather obvious but I still missed it. Now conservative judges give all American freedoms more chance
Amen. Perhaps it was "destiny". :D

When they thought they had their way, 2016 presidential election happened to their shock and surprise (I guess "deplorable" people can still think for themselves and vote for whoever they want  ).

To their dismay, our president has been appointing federal judges and the Supreme Court justices like no other president in history to tilt the balance of the panel/bench to the conservative pro gun/2A side - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_federal_judges_appointed_by_Donald_Trump

In 2010, Supreme Court justice Kagan stated “We are all originalists” which spoke to a subtle but increasingly apparent truth that since the 1980s, there has seen a quiet judicial revolution where judges across the country are paying more and more attention to what the Constitution meant when it was ratified and the trend is unmistakable - https://www.realclearpolitics.com/a..._are_all_originalists_now_sort_of_140957.html

And surprise to many, increasing number of cases are being ruled in favor of conservative and pro gun/2A tilt. With justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh appointed to the SCOTUS with their impeccable arguments for original meaning and intent of the Constitution (Even Ginsburg is fan of their impeccable reasoning), re-election of Trump will seal the judicial future by Trump appointing future justices that are like Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, originalists for decades, perhaps generations.

The antis must be in full tilt panic mode right now because if/when Trump wins in 2020, their decades of work can and will be undone by future federal/SCOTUS judge/justice appointments.

So anticipate more desperate panic reaction and ape crazy efforts by the antis to force/impose their WILL on us gun owners' RIGHTS.

BUT know that we are WINNING the judicial fight for our gun rights who can overrule/overturn what the anti gun/2A law makers want to do - GUN BAN/CONFISCATION.

Enjoy the show.

Absolute power corrupts, absolutely...

We have been witnessing the creation of the new iteration of the robber baron in America. Republicans have traditionally supported and protected the wealthy no matter how wealthy and how powerful they become.

Now we have giant monopolies in almost all areas of retail and the majority of those CEOs who control the markets are becoming "woke" and are using their un-checked power to attack individual freedoms and liberty and conservative values.

The Bible states that the love of money is the root of all evil, and it is absolutely correct.

I believe we will win the judicial fight for gun rights/2A.

Social justice warrior CEOs can kiss my dirty bore brushes.

Now we need the list of their names so we can voice our discontent to the board members and add to our boycott list. :D

UPDATE: Here it is with the letter. Not surprisingly, many are already on our anti-gun/2A company boycott list. Time for another cup of coffee and to make a list of company boards to write to and add to my anti gun/2A company boycott list (I won't waste my time writing to already known ant gun/2A companies on the boycott list) - https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/6402600-CEO-Senate-GVP-Letter-Final-Signatories-12.html

What evidence do you have that we are winning the fight for gun rights in the courts? AWB's are being upheld and the so-called "conservative" Supreme Court is refusing to take the cases. There is nothing to indicate that the SC would invalidate even "mandatory buybacks" (confiscations) of AW's. They would simply cite the dicta in Scalia's Heller opinion.
