Stephen Willeford article

Since no context is given, Stephen Willeford is the good guy who stopped the shooter at First Baptist in Sutherland Springs, TX on 5-Nov-17. The article is about the event and the aftermath in Stephen's life.

As the article puts it, "a good guy with a gun."

Thank you for posting this. I didn't get to read the original article posted in the magazine.

I live about 50 miles away but I shoot clays with a bunch of friends from the American Legion on a property in Sutherland Springs, and I drive past the church a couple times a month or so. Immediately after the shooting, the outpour of flowers and crosses at the fences was amazing. The tiny church itself was closed for a time as it was a crime scene. I do not know if it was ever reopened, because today the old church is gone and a beautiful new block and stone building sits on that corner lot. It's a beautiful building, built on a foundation of pain and blood, but held fast with the mortar of hope and faith. Long may it stand.

I've never met Mr. Williford, but from a few accounts, he is a genuinely good man. And while everyone likes to call him a "good guy with a gun..", after hearing accounts of him previously, and reading this story, I honestly believe the more accurate term should be "a great man strengthened by the Spirit".

YMMV

I never read the article before either, thanks for posting it. Being in San Antonio and at that time I was regularly driving close by to visit my dad that was at the Veterans home in Floresville, it hit close to home when it happened. I have never met Willeford either. I do hear him call in regularly to KTSA especially when talking about gun rights. Seems like a very humble guy. I wish him and his family the best.

The "true" definition of a hero - somebody who, with little or no thought of their own safety, confronts danger to protect others. A "darn" good article about a man who should be an example to us all.

Good article. He acted as a lot of us hope we would if ever in that type of situation while praying that it never actually will happen to us.
Hopefully we all learn something by reading that article. I did. I also understand most "heros" are regular folks that step up and do the right thing when called to do it. Then they are almost embarrassed to be honored as such. Yet we always are blessed to have them act when needed.
