I store my guns in "silicone treated" gun socks. I have no idea the extent of the "treating" during the manufacturing process so I always lightly spray them again with a silicone spray before storage.

I have been using a silicone Liquid Wrench product I bought years ago, probably for some other purpose. Anyway, yesterday I finished the can. My next step today was to scan all the "miracle" products listed on Amazon, which only confused my mind.

I'm looking for tried and true suggestions.

Just read an article that included some caveats on when not to use silicone. It noted the outside of guns, door handles, and fishing rods. I presume because silicone makes surfaces slippery

No doubt it makes things slippery. Haven't noticed any difference when using the silicone socks on how slippery the surface are. I use the clp combo when setting up for long term storage. I don't shoot my SKS bought it for resale/trade later when prices go up. The rest get sprayed w regular clp. And put into safe without sock.

I use Eezox on the guns metal and store them in a silicone sock, gun rug, or oil cotton cloth. My safes have a warming rod and humidity gauge. Never a problem

Maybe I should have clearer. I wipe the guns down with RIG. I have been spraying the socks with the silicone because I don't have much faith in the "silicone treated" tag. And, I was wondering if there was a better silicone spray than I have been using. From my Amazon search, there must be 30 or more products...all claiming to be best.

I'll mention one thing about silicone. It's not good around wood stocks and their finish. It can get in chips and scratches causing the finish to lift. Plus once it's in the wood a new finish may not stick in that area. Same with mineral oil thats in many wood conditioners. Be careful what you rub on wood stocks.

I bought a bunch of them and ended up not really ever using them. They might reduce dings inside a safe, but - for humidity control I just add extra dessicant packs to the cabinet and make sure the humidity is at an OK level. Part of me things a little air circulation is good.

How about it doesn't matter what brand of Silicon spray you use on your socks. There is none better or worse than the other.
Blaster
WD
CRC
etc etc

Silicone is bad news on wood surfaces. If you ever plan on refinishing any stock don’t use it
A pre WW2 product developed by the Germans called Ballistol is non toxic and is excellent on wood stocks leather or metal. One just needs to get past the funky smell. It’s also an excellent gun cleaner and is water soluble but will stay behind when the moisture evaporates.

I would also like to read what people think about the topic. I use a silicone-treated cloth - no wood on any of my guns and probably won't be - but am also waiting on some treated gun socks from Amazon. No kids. No safe. I'm hoping the socks will help and not hinder.

Thibaut,
For long term storage, I wipe the guns down with a cloth saturated with RIG. I spray the socks with silicone and let them dry. With the gun in the sock, I try to group similar guns and caliber and place three or four in a Zerust bag and seal with a zip tie. One hint, I use tags on each sock, and a tag on the Zerust bag denoting the contents. It will ease searching.Trust me on this.

. I would like to store some black powder revolvers in my gun safe, placed in Gun Socks. I’m balking at the price each and think a work sock available at Walmart or BigLots would suffice. I’m Leary of Some of the cheaper gun-socks available on Amazon size wise. I’ve got numerous revolvers most with 8 inch barrels.

FYI: Mine came from Amazon. Allen. Made in USA. Drawstring top. I did a quick measure and they would easily stretch to 12" total.
