Need help choosing between Ruger 10/22 18.5" Man's best friend collector or 20" Target.

I have Ruger 10/22 Take Down I have been using as accuracy testing platform with smallest 0.65" 10 shot group at 25 yards and about 1.0" 10 shot groups at 50 yards - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/how-accurate-is-your-10-22.851005/#post-11122419

I am thinking about replacing the TD with one of these and would appreciate your input as to which is "good enough" or "definitely better" for 25/50 yard accuracy testing.

I read most 22LR ammo stop accelerating around 16"-18" and accuracy from 16"/18" barrels may be good as if not better than longer 20"/22" barrels. If 18.5" barrel is good enough, I rather not spend the extra $170 on 20" Target model. Or I can buy Green Mountain barrel for the

This will be used for bench testing with scope only.

I would be happiest with the beautiful target model.

But, would you be happier with a lighter, shorter rifle, with a rail already installed?
Or the heavier and much more pretty bull barrel?
And it isn't just about walking around with it...

I think the green one would be sufficient for your tests and, as you say, it's less expensive too. But, instinctively, I move to the target model for benchrest.
The price difference is right about one case of good ammunition. (But I suspect you will be getting many small boxes...:))

A hard choice of two great rifles!

Since I won't be competing, utmost accuracy is not warranted for me as I am simply doing ammo comparison.

I am leaning towards $199 Collector with the option to add Green Mountain barrel if accuracy is not better than Take Down.

I am already well stocked up on Aguila 40 gr CP RN and Armscor 36 gr CP HP which shoot accurate for me.

My 10/22T is my oldest rifle, and still a favorite; it's minute-of-chipmunk to 50 yd. I would buy another any day over a spindly-barreled tupperware-stocked "Collector's Edition".

I bought several bricks worth of the Armscor at Dunhams when I had an E-coupon for fifteen dollars a piece.
I have had enormus luck with them. Zero problems in many thousands of rounds.

For what I believe you have in mind, the plastic stock is adequate, as I think you are looking to not touch the rifle anyway.
But I agree with Edward. I nicer rifle may make your testing easier, if not more enjoyable.

I think I am safe to say you deserve it, too.:)
I know the bottom line is the bottom line. But it may, I pray, be a good many years you use this rifle...

I shoot most of my 22s open sights, so I would go with the man's best friend as it has improved sights. If I were to scope it, I'd take the target. I put fiber optic sights on my take-down and it is a blast, but my groups aren't as good as yours!

I decided to buy the Man's Best Friend Collector from PSA for $199 with included $25 gift certificate that I may use to buy high comb stock extension for $19.95 - http://shopruger.com/Rugerreg-Stock-Module-High-Comb_Standard-Pull/productinfo/90432/

My rationale was 10/22 Target with laminated stock is at regular price but the #3 Collector won't be around. And with $25 gift certificate, I will be getting the high comb stock extension for free. And if group size needs to be improved, I could always buy Green Mountain barrel so I would have less than the price of Target model with synthetic stock I prefer with the benefit of iron/ghost ring sights and better scope mound.

I'll second the LVT. Best out of the box 10/22 I've shot. With some trigger stoning it's outstanding.
Mine is blue/blue, but if could find an all stainless ...
