Videos are no substitution for competent training in a classroom and on the range, but they are often the first place people go for information these days.

If you had a complete noob inexperienced in any defensive firearms training that was going to get an AR for home defense (important for distance considerations) what YTVids would you have them watch or what webpages would you send them to so they would avoid all the bad information or way too advanced information out there?

When I got my first AR I watched as many as I could find.
I learned to field strip it and put it back together.
I oiled it and made sure it was clean and lubed.
Then I took it to the range and had a good time
Then field stripped it again and repeated.

So I know this isn’t an answer but it’s what I did.

I guess if I had to pick one I’d pick The ones Jerry Miculek has on his channel
Jerry’s a legend and does a great job explaining things

The Lucky Gunner vid on how to use an AR is very basic and would be good for a noob.

Anything past that I would suggest anything and everything including build videos like the Midway USA series. Kotaboy Tactical has all kinds of ARs and explanations.

I second a good build series that carefully labels or displays individual components, where they go, and how to test for function of each. Akin to driver’s ed where you learned controls before getting behind the wheel.

From there something on lubrication and maintenance, then tactics for general defense before getting in to AR specifics. As always, a video on what to expect when expecting the police if an incident arises, to include what not to do during an incident that they may be needed for.

My apologies for having no specific links to answer the question at hand, and probably being redundant by stating the obvious.

Is this someone who already knows how to shoot and has some modicum of knowledge of tactics, and they're just learning the stuff that is peculiar to using a carbine for home defense? Do they already know that and just need to know how to keep an AR running and maintained?

Anything but the films we saw in basic where they held the sling as a vertical forgrip........:what:

No, an inexperienced shooter.
