Delightful Reddit thread with Beto

I'm hoping that's just his excuse to sit on his hands on the whole deal. Per Trumps past record that would be my guess. Plus everyone else saying "see, they just want to take the guns away". Because it's true.
It is. I haven't really figured out if D.Trump is a fish or a bird yet - and I may well never will, but no matter how much I hate his guts (well, he only was the second worst candidate in 2016 election final phase), I can't help appreciating his no-nonsense approach to a number of things. Especially the principle of not trying to fix things that aren't actually broken.

Talking about the possibility and the whole concept of confiscation is a good thing. That, if anything, is a wake-up call to anyone who has ever thought otherwise. The ban has already been imposed on new, fully automatic firearms for 33+ years, "assault" (cosmetically) weapons are next and in the unlikely scenario of their ban succeeding, everything else will follow.

Everything. There's no such thing as a "good gun" in these people's minds. Except - of course - the ones in the hands of the militia firmly controlled by their "great" leaders.

That's why not giving in an inch and never compromising even the slightest bit is not only a good idea. It's the only way to go.

Straight up negotiating new restrictions on gun rights doesn't make any more sense than pro-choice organizations negotiating new limits on abortion rights (something they never do, either).

Cutting strategic deals that get you something tangible and removes some political pressure point - that can make sense. But you have to get a good deal.

And consider, the War on Drugs is against druggies. . . not the sharpest needles in the bin.

The War on Arms would be against a very different, very law-abiding, very cautious, and well-prepared demographic who don't engage in the sorts of stupid that make druggies easy to spot.

To be fair, there's some very intelligent people involved with the manufacture, logistics, and distribution of drugs. The ability to make money will always attract smart people, regardless of the legality of the operations. It's the end user's of drugs that are often not smart. Then again, I've run into top executives that like coke and of course marijuana.

The notion that all people who use drugs are globally stupid/inept and all who use guns are smart/competent is... well, that's just farcical. All 4 quadrants of that grid are occupied.

The problem with that is that you either win it all or you lose it all. If it looks like you're going to lose, it might be a smart idea to try to mitigate the damage. The difficult part is knowing when you're about to lose.

This.

If Beto could deliver Texas’s electoral college votes
He's have to sweep, DFW, Houston, Austin & San Antonio, and El Paso to do so--and, he didn't even get that close in his Senate run. And that was before he alienated evey gun-owning voter in Texas.

Anecdotally, the "America for Beto" yard signs have pretty much vanished.signs

Beto may be dead in the water for being President BUT he may be a choice for Vice-President. V.P.’s are often chosen to balance the ticket and bring in votes. If Beto could deliver Texas’s electoral college votes that would be make him highly wanted.
No. If Biden is the nominee, the VP would have to be a female, preferably a minority female. That means Kamala Harris, Stacey Abrams, or Amy Klobuchar. Personally I would bet on Klobuchar, if Biden is the nominee. They need to shore up Minnesota.
If Warren is the nominee, the VP would have to be a minority male. Probably Cory Booker.

Beto could not deliver Texas, especially after the gun confiscation talk. Smart Democrats know this. They actually have a better chance of carrying Texas without him.

In business and "real world" that is a solid strategy indeed. However, in politics it only feeds the opposition and makes them want more. And more. And more. Give them and inch and they take a mile. That fact unfortunately never changes until the whole absurdity eventually collapses on itself when the damage has already been done. Case in point, 18th amendment.

The comments on Reddit in response to Beto make me proud to be an American.
The colloquy on Reddit is telling me something. Just as Beto's confiscation talk served to (maybe) move the Overton Window so that confiscation is included in acceptable discourse, the reaction to it is moving the Overton Window in the opposite direction. That is, the reaction has been so strong and well-reasoned that talk of confiscation is rapidly becoming unacceptable again. We now have even Chuck Schumer saying that "no other Democrat agrees" with Beto on confiscation. That's an obvious lie, but it tells us that Schumer is afraid to follow Beto down that path. Some antigun people are even suspecting that Beto was a pro-gun Republican plant all along, since the damage to the antigun cause is turning out to be so severe. This is certainly stopping UBC's in their tracks.

Let's hope so.

Well, I joined Reddit just to post this:

BEGIN:
Hey Robert Francis O’Rourke...it’s okay to come after white people, because that’s what you and yours are doing, right? Go after these “Mass Shootings” and shooters in Chicago.

You and yours don’t have the balls!

https://chicago.suntimes.com/platfo...er-16-chicago-shootings-gun-violence-homicide

https://chicago.suntimes.com/platfo...cago-weekend-gun-violence-homicide-sept-13-16

BETTER YET WHY NOT TALLY THINGS UP FOR YOU. True math is not a strong suit for people like you.

https://chicago.suntimes.com/2019/1/1/18314536/police-release-2018-shooting-numbers

CHICAGO -

Murders between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31 by year:

  • 2018: 561
  • 2017: 660
  • 2016: 777
Shooting victims between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31 by year:

  • 2018: 2948
  • 2017: 3463
  • 2016: 4351
Shooting incidents between Jan 1. and Dec. 31 by year:

  • 2018: 2391
  • 2017: 2777
  • 2016: 3550
You need to quit pickin’ on the folks that are long to anger and pull you head out of where we all know it is, Beto.

Call your running mates. Let ‘em know. The gloves are coming off. Better yet, challenge them to come up with a solution.

Oh, and don’t spew nonsense about poverty and bad schooling regarding Chicago. I grew up poor and a poor community. There was no murder and shootings. You all have thrown enough money at it.

END

I hate social media like Reddit and such but I am sick of hearing guys like O’Rouke spew their nonsense. It’s time the gloves come off.

I hate social media like Reddit

Reddit has much more going for it that something like facebook. There are plenty of Subs that aren't idiot echo chambers.

https://www.reddit.com/r/gundeals/
https://www.reddit.com/r/dgu/
https://www.reddit.com/r/Firearms/

Reddit is all about finding the Subs that appeal to you and ignoring the ones full of teenage edgelords.... mostly the default subs

Also for hilarity sake, Betos comment is now at 13.4k downvotes. For those not familiar with how Reddit voting works, an upvote cancels out a downvote and vice versa, so in order to have 13.4k downvotes, that doesn't mean that 13.4k people downvoted the post, that means 13.4k more people downvoted it than upvoted it. And at least five people paid real money to give him golden turd awards on the post. Needles to say, the post was very unpopular.

Thank you for that explanation. I appreciate it. :)

I don’t do Faceplant or any social sites so your comment helps me to understand how Reddit works.

Live that vote cancellation thing.

The Dems would have to be insane to put Hillary on the ticket.

In her mind she won the election in a landslide and had it stolen from her.

I could see her waiting to the last possible minute to enter since she is above all this debate, and to allow the party to see the current choices are poor. This way she will swoop in and save them all
