Do I need to do anything special to care for a Colt Python?

I have a 1970 Colt Python and it has maybe 10% wear on the blueing. I cleaned it after firing it recently and it has been in a small safe by itself. I used some CLP and cleaned the gun thoroughly inside and out, but was concerned about moisture inside of the safe or CLP harming the gun.

Put a desicant bag in there if youre worried. Oil from fingerprints is far more harmful than a little humidity. Clp wont hurt anything in my experience, its what the navy uses (or used) on their ship mounted guns in salt spray, worked for them. Just never store it in leather, learned that the hard way years ago. I dont like foam or cloth in contact with any gun unless its a silicone impregnated gun sock, which may help keep scratches away and prevent corrosion.

Can we see some pics? Always a gift from above to see Python. Treat it like any blued gun, I don't clean after EVERY outing. At most I wipe down with a silicone cloth and put back in the safe. Do NOT use any solvents that are not safe for blueing. Some Hoppes 9 are not good for it, read your bottles carefully but most CLPs or Lube or car oil, or the tears of a phoenix you use should be fine. Do not try to use lead away cloths, it WILL remove bluing as well

I am fortunate to have a perfectly balanced "dry air" system installed in my gun safe. And being a conscientious THR member I provide FREE storage for classics such as your beautiful python. No thanks needed I'm a "giver". Feel free to take advantage of my offer.:)

Put a hygrometer in your safe to monitor humidity. Oil the gun like any other and don't worry about it.

As far as cleaning goes, most of my guns are put away dirty. I don't clean until they malfunction or I get tired of getting soot all over me. I simply wipe down with oil and store.

Is your safe inside the house? If so you should have no worries. I live in a crazy humid environment, keep my guns in the safe that's inside my air conditioned home, and have never had an issue with rust; and there's guns in there that haven't been oiled in years. I have no special gear in the safe to dehumidify it.

I have a friend who foolishly kept a large collection of very valuable guns in gun safes in his barn in Mississippi. They all rusted. It was a sad, totally avoidable deal, but he's one of those people who really doesn't care if $80,000 worth of guns turns to rust.

Keep it lightly oiled, and keep an eye on it. If you need to you can always add some dehumidification.

I don't wipe my guns down with oil anymore. These days I use Renaissance Wax on the exterior and reserve oil for the interior workings. After a good wax job, I store them in plain old white cotton socks to keep them from hitting together. Oh, just in case it's not clear, apply the wax by hand, and buff off with a clean cloth, by hand. You can get Renaissance Wax in a number of places, but I just order it online. It's used by top museums. Good stuff.

I don't have a Python anymore, but when I did, I gave it the same treatment.
