Ok, my mistake so I could use some help.

My FIL gave me a well cared for 1960's version of the FIE E28 (.25 Auto).
And I decided I wanted to try reloading. (ya, I know, but with the price of ammo ...)

I ordered a bag of #3 buckshot.
There in lies the problem.

I didn't realize it, but this bag is nickel plated.
And the diameter is .238 or so.

I have data for lead .251"

I'd hate to send it back, it'd cost more than what it's worth.
Can anyone help?

I just finished sending an email to the company telling them I'm disappointed in the size.
We'll see what their response is.

By the way, their listing clearly says these are .250"

Hopefully they merely sent an incorrect package and will send you the proper shot, post haste and gratis.

Troy's suggestion may work, but it seems like a lot of thickness for coating. But it is a pretty low pressured round. But it is a round ball and not a bullet with a bearing surface to capture the coating next to the barrel.

You don't need rust resistant ballast for a model boat, do you?:)

I don't know much about shot, but would the nickel plating be very good for the rifling? I would think it would make the ball to hard to obturate properly as well.
Like I say though, I don't know.

Their response:

Hi Jeff,

We are more than happy to supply you with a call tag to return this shot to us for credit. We start our Nickel Plated Buckshot off with Remington Field Grade shot and as you have stated below Remington’s shot does vary in size and we do not have control over their manufacturing process. Please let us know if we can be of any assistance.

First time I have heard of someone loading buckshot in a 25 ACP, Interesting.

Thank You,

welcome to the misery..... .25 auto is the most pia thing I load. If I'm lucky I'll do 50 before I give up and decide that's plenty to have on hand. small fingers are a plus here.

Interesting that they plate someone else's shot.

And I'd hate to dump on Remington more, but, even their shot is sub par?!
Come on, Illion. Or wherever is making them...

I am very glad they can help you get the proper size.
Let us know how it goes!

I haven't been on the block long, but I've seen several different minisule cases fitted with a single ball in the stead of a bullet.
Thirty two, twenty five, even a three eighty. And they all worked remarkably well.
But I don't use them anymore in front stuffers...
Balls bounce!:D
And I am unlucky enough, or dumb enough, to have them hit a stone in the berm, or shoot them at a frozen dead tree.
Don't do that.:)

But do have fun, @Hondo 60!

Maybe patch the shot somehow?
Not a BP shooter but don't they usually batch round balls?
Never loaded .25 but AA#2 meters well in small charges. (at least .380 size charges).
Of course you could probably count out flakes of Red Dot with tweezers which might be faster:evil::D

Have fun:)

for me time is money; so unless I need a special purpose round, its just as easy and cost expedient for me to buy fmj factory loads.

#3 buckshot should be around 0.250 so you can load 25 ACP with it. The one time I tried, it wouldn't feed out of the magazine so I never tried again. I still have one of those reloads in a box somewhere. No more than I load for and shoot 25 ACP, I just buy jacketed or plated bullets. Midway has 35 grain gold dots in stock.

Step by step.
1st Step - Buy some store bought -to see if the gun even fires, then to see if it throws the brass in a reasonable area.
2nd Step - reload with #3 buckshot to see how that goes.
3rd step - I by a mold.

I've noticed buck shot diameters are less than stated, I've opened a few OOO buck shells hoping they were .360" but they were .350" even the copper plated were well under .36". They did work well in my slingshot :)

The fine folks at Arsenal can set you up with a five cavity mold that was actually designed for an FIE .25 ACP for $83.00, the two hole version is only $68.00.

...But it is a pretty low pressured round...
.25 ACP is a kinda wimpy round, but pressures aren't as low as most folks think.

.25 ACP is marked in green, rounds with lower SAAMI max pressures are marked in red.

I never thought of using shot to reload .25acp... I never thought of reloading 25acp either.

Could you use a larger shot and swage it down to the needed .250"? Hmmm.... probably wouldn't work with nickle plated shot?

I bought a 25 ACP bullet mould for my 25 ACP guns. I do not shoot them much so small batches of bullets is fine.

Loading 25 ACP is not bad if you take your time handling the small components.

Skip step 2. Buy a mold. Melt down the buckshot and skim off the nickel and alloy it for cast bullets.

Wouldn't swaging it down make a better bearing surface and make them all uniform size? If so just get a larger size, seems that would be a great way to create bullets cheap, even if you mold your own bullets you will want a sizing die, I powder coated some .357 bullets and ran them through a sizing die and they shoot good.

Hmmm. When I begin reloading for a new-to-me caliber, I always find a load (bullet, primer, powder) in my manual(s) then buy components. I always tell newer reloaders that it's a good idea to begin with a tried and true load as in most cases they have had all the "bugs" worked out.

If I had started reloading for a new caliber I would have purchased bullets. Buying cast bullets in 25 cal. probably wouldn't be much more, if any costlier than a bag of plated shot. Some commercial cast lead bullets would be pretty cheap (I saw some 55 gr. cast 25 cal bullets for $39.00 per 500, and premium jacketed HPs for $16.00-$18.00 per 100)...

mdi - great suggestions for newer reloaders.
I would advocate for your idea whole-heartedly.

About Me:
I have probably 20 molds in various calibers.
I probably shoot more 38 Spl & 45 Colt than all the other rounds put together
I doubt I'll shoot more then 15-20 rounds of .25acp in a year.
This is strictly for playing, just to see what happens.

Sorry, my head immediately went to a new reloader seeking info...:(

Yep! Curiosity in an experienced shooter/reloader is a good thing. I once bought a mold for ammo for my Wrist Rocket and when I measured the balls, they were .432"-.433". "Hmm, my 44 Mags use .432"-.433" bullets so would these balls work in my guns?". I developed some really fun "gallery" loads for my big 44s. I often got 1 1/2" groups @ 30' and my Ruger SBH felt like I was shooting 22 lrs...
