Bedded the stock and forend on my 1894. Will be doing the same with my 444 and the stock on my 20 ga slug gun.
Don’t know if it improves accuracy at all but it’s a fun little project and at the very least protects your stock from cracking at the recoil bearing point.
Man, that looks like my kind of work. I wish I could lend a hand!View attachment 862671 News flash: it’s still hot in Mississippi. Figured I better go ahead and check zero on some rifles that haven’t been out of the safe much this Summer. Anybody else getting ready for cooler weather and hunting season today?
Everything ready to go except for checking zeros and some practice. Plan to use two different rifles, one 12 ga. slug gun, and one 44 Mag. revolver depending on which area I'm hunting and how thick the woods are where I am. Gotta get to the range this coming week and get started. It’s definitely a beautiful rifle. I bought it from a fellow THR member. I’m about to go on the hunt for a similar rifle in either 6.5x55 or 243 Win for my wife.Mine sit ready year round.
I did find a box of factory 95nbt for my 240 hiding in my empty brass drawer.
Since switching to all Nikon scopes, with bedded actions, it's a set it and forget it proposition.
That mannlicher stock looks sweet.
That 338 Fed is interesting to me. I’m probably going to start looking seriously at something larger in diameter than .30 cal next year. I’m curious to see how you like it.I put 3 through the wringer yesterday. They are ready for action. Didn't shoot my new one yet. Bought a Savage 11 in 338 Federal and stuck a 3X9 VX-2 on it, bore sighted, and set the trigger at 3 lbs. The only ammo I have is 200 gr. Federal Fusion.
Ron Shirks had a closeout on some Savage 11 XP Hunter Packages with a 3X9 Bushnell and I had to get one. Federal claims 2700 fps with 200 gr, but my manuals show 2500-2600 fps as compressed maximums. I'll chrono everything and we will see. That 338 Fed is interesting to me. I’m probably going to start looking seriously at something larger in diameter than .30 cal next year. I hunt pigs year round, but I don’t hunt them with bolt action rifles. My deer rifles don’t get shot much throughout the year, so they get “tuned up” a few months before the season starts. Basically just clean them, make sure all screws are tight and check zero. Everything was good to go today, but I’d rather check and make sure.I don't "tune up" before hunting season. Hunting SOMETHING is all year long for me. I shoot mine all year long, rarely does a gun I use for any kind of hunting go more than a week with out getting shot.
They don't NEED "tuned" up.
Yeah, I’d be happy with that kind of accuracy. How’s the fit and finish on that rifle? This new production 444 shoots lights out. Remlin might finally have gotten something right.
Hornady Superformamce 265 gr FP 5 shot group fed from a full magazine @ 100.
