A while ago I found a kinda rare gun at my favorite gun store. I put it on layaway and finally liberated it this week.

It is a Savage 24v series D

Cal is 357 Mag over 20 gauge.
The optic is an early Aimpoint 2x

Checkered Monte Carlo stock, case colored receiver and hammer mounted selector. Some range time is definitely in my future. :)

Here's mine, 22mag/20ga. I woulda jumped on a 357mag one if I could have.

Congratulations, very nice combo. All these are what it should be looking like. Why does Savage make them upside down and ugly now? I was eying a Russian Baïkal .22LR/20ga, but they have dried up now. Who knows when Russian imports will be allowed by my government again? Not any time soon for sure. Chiappa also offers something similar in the double badger, but reviews are not so hot about them.

The M24 .222/20 I had was disappointing. It strung shots badly with the rifle barrel, and zero wandered.

I have an early .22/410 (predates M24 designation) like Armed Farmer’s pic. In fact, it wears a butt cuff and sling swivels like his, but has plastic stocks, with a storage compartment in butt. Rifle barrel and shotgun barrel with slugs shoots astonishingly close to poi/POA at useful ranges (25yds). It stands in corner behind book case near front door, “just in case...”.

I have one of the first .223/20 mag 24V and it has been passed along to my 16YO grandson from his dad.I have had Tenite stocked .22/410, .22mag/.410 24C Camper , .30-30/.20 , and a rare .357 max/20 gauge in my past. The 30-30 went to a Texas Missionary and the .357 Max to ab Austrailian missionary in the 80s. My youngest son still has the (repaired) OLD Tenite for rats ect and I have the Camper in it's bag in my camping trailer. They are fun and practical ultility guns that hold a surprising value !

Nice gun. You need to ship that to me ASAP for evaluation and testing!

I had a 22 mag over 20ga but sold it before I ever shot it. I was offered enough profit I couldn't say no. Then I found a 22/410 Baikal/Spartan imported by Remington. That was a nice gun with nice Russian Walnut and 4 choke tubes for the 410 barrel. I hadn't shot it in a while then decided to list it on GB where it didn't sell. Then a guy wrote and asked if I still wanted to sell it so I did. A few weeks later he sent me a picture of a fox he killed at 90 yards with the 22 barrel. I am glad he is getting some use out of it.

Enjoy your new gun.

That's about the ideal combo. Iron sights are good enough for 357 range and a shotgun barrel makes quick work of rabbit, grouse, or squirrel.
Of course sitting ones would easily be gotten with a 357.
I would say I'm jealous, but I'm just happy that someone gets to enjoy something that I think is cool.

I have been thinking about using 38 Special target loads to head shoot small game. Anyone ever load 000 buck in a 38 for round ball loads?

I have the 12ga over .30-30 model. A bit heavy, but a good truck or boat gun.

Would love to find a .357mag over 20 gauge.
