I need some suggestions. I've got a short action Savage with a 24" heavy barrel. I put a Shilen barrel 6mm Rem on it. Blind mag, with top release. It has the economical black plastic blind mag varmint stock. It started as a 20" patrol I think.
I would like to put it into something a little better. I am not a fan of Savage DBMs so would do something diff. I was wondering who makes good stock/bottom metal or chassis for this. Thanks!

I have an older staggerfeed M12 that began life as a BVSS blind magazine repeater. With some help from Craig @ PDC Custom, I was able to finally turn it into an ISSF 300M standard rifle:

The website is still under development (I think), but the contact info is there. He has a FB page as well.

rib? Or do you mean the rear sight base (which is spanning the loading port).

It began life as a blind magazine 22-250. I used a Shilen Select Match barrel, from Northland Shooting Supply and one of their barrel nuts to rebarrel it to a .260 Remington. I replaced the factory trigger with a Rifle Basix trigger, contacted PDC Custom and had Craig lay out the stock so that it would be useful for 3 position shooting. The PDC stocks make use of AICS magazines; ISSF rules require single loading - I used a Bob Sled to accomplish the single loading aspect. A MEC Spy rear sight, and a Centra front sight, and a standard Champions Choice mirage band finish everything off.

Practice with it at the 300M Nat'ls in MN. proved interesting. I fired one of my highest practice scores ever; unfortunately the loose nut behind the trigger rear his ugly head on Match Day One, and I fired below my normal practice score, putting out of contention for anything other than a good handshake.

I recently put a Savage 11 .308 on a Oryx chassis. I am really impressed. Consistently less than .5 moa.

You could try stocky’s

You will need to know your action screw spacing also IME with Savage stocks (not chassis ) the bolt release information (top or bottom) will be asked.

The MDT LSS chassis for the Savage short action will accept either the 4.4” or the 4.27” action screw spacing. I think well of them for most folk’s needs, but I definitely encourage using the XL version; the short forearm of the original makes the rifle a little more prone to wobble on a front rest / bipod if you’re using longer / heavier barrels.

I'll preface by saying you can probably afford a nicer stock, BUT I really like the Choate Tacitcal Stock I got for my Savage 10 FCP in .308. It's definitely heavy but I knew that going in. I had to do some minor dremmeling to get it to fit properly but the V block bedding built in is pretty nifty. IMO, it's a nicer stock than the price would indicate. Mine is the basic model that runs around $200 (the first link), but they do offer a "custom" version that has an adjustable cheek piece and butt pad (the 2nd link).
