OK, i’m Getting consistent groups in my 20” barrel with 135 grain Bergers. I’m only getting 2580 FPS using 41.5 gr of H414. I could press up on grains. Question: would MAGNUM primer change/help.

I like a Magnum primer with that powder, just because it's a ball powder. It might help, but not enough to warrant a new load work up.
You could try different powders. There are a few that are supposed to give more velocity.
I'm going to strongly suggest h4350, with the implication that this SHOULD get you safely closer to 2700 fps.

Barrels are funny. I’ve got several Creedmoors and those with Bergara barrels consistently have higher velocities than those with Sako barrels. For instance my 22” Bergara exceeds my 24” Sako by over 100 FPS.

All that said, the Sakos usually produce better groups and I prefer accuracy over velocity.

Are these velocities confirmed on paper downrange? I'm saying this because my chronograph has always showed slower numbers than what it was actually shooting. I know for a fact I have to add 5% to the number it shows. If it reads 2600 fps I can dial in at 2730 and its usually on the money. I've confirmed this with about 15 different rifles.

If you aren't shooting exactly parallel to the sensors, you can get that issue.
Since you know the error percentage, it doesn't matter though.

I had a 28” broughton 260 barrel. The real benefit was being able to achieve the same velocity as a shorter barrel with a lower pressure load and having it cause less wear on the throat. That being said I could achieve 3000fps+ with slower powders and max loads

Thank you. This maybe the answer that confirms what I’m experienced. I’ll share that I have a “poor man’s” velocity meter. I go to an online ballistics calculator (ala Federal calculator) and plug in a comparable load. The calculator spits out a FPS number AND the “drop in inches” projections at each interval. “If” my drop in inches results are comparable, then I assume that i’m achieving the FPS equivalent! To heck with the chronograph. I love this stuff!

Yes sir, write everything down and try different ranges. With all the apps and information out there it’s pretty easy. I always rely on gravity to tell me the truth! When you start figuring this stuff out and it starts working as you predicted, that’s when you officially become addicted! :)

What bullet weight achieved that velocity? Not with a 135-140 I assume, that’s .264 Magnum velocity.

.

I'll echo the guys saying try a different powder if you want more velocity. I have a 20" Creedmoor which should give similar velocities. I use RL16 under 127gr LRX for 2,890 fps and under 140gr ABs for ~2,700 fps. RL17 is supposed to be even faster, but I haven't tried it. I do have a friend using RL17 under 140gr SGKs for ~2,800 fps in a 20" 6.5. I don't know his load, and that does seem a bit warm to me, but it's certainly not hard to do quite a bit better than 2,580 fps if that's your goal.

B6AECAF0-7CCD-4887-AE80-9FAA680B32B0.jpeg Excited today. Went to the flat based Sierra Pro Hunter 120 grains. Using H4350, started at 44 gr and worked up to 45.9 grains where I got the 2810 FPS speed I was looking for. Been having low velocity readings with this short barrel til today. Loaded .035 off of lands. Shot MOA at 200 yards. I love this stuff!

Looks good to go.
