Nice! Always wanted to explore the world of the 444 but just never pulled the trigger on one (literally and figuratively). Curious why you picked the 444 over the 45-70, i know there are differences but 444 brass is a little more scarce and bullets intended for those velocities in 44 a bit less common too.
Sweet rifle, congrats.

Nice score. I regret letting my 1895 .45-70 slip away from me many years ago. That thing would kick the bejessus out of me shooting off the bench with full loads and is the only rifle I owned that would turn my cheek black and blue. Shooting offhand though, no problems.

One of these years I'll grab another one :)

I didn't pick it over the 45-70,the first lever action rifle I bought was the 45-70 last year. It is a 26" octagon tubular magazine barrel.

IMO, the 444 Marlin is a great , under appreciated, round and firearm.

One of these days, when I have all sorts of money... this is on the list.

I've got a mid 70s Marlin 444 w/MG. The 240grn bullet gave it a bad rep on game bigger than deer. Wrong size bullet diameter gave it a stability problem in MG. Theres plenty of data with proper sized cast boolits up to 320 grns or so that work great and shoot flatter and hit harder than a 45-70 with equal weights. 45-70 can take 400- 500grn bullets and win as the heavy hitter. The .444 or .348 is more than I'll ever need. Just fun to shoot with cast boolits.

I'm elk hunting with my H&R 444 this week for one of my sets that's perfect for 325 grs cast hammers.

I'm a fan of the 444 and really want a new Marlin repeater but have been scared off by Remlin horror stories. Looking forward to a range report and your views on Remlin quality. Looks great

Is it an 1895 444 or is it just a 444?

Before the 1895 ever existed Marlin reworked the 336 action to fit this new cartridge they devised called the 444 Marlin.
