Who's a fan of single shot pistols in rifle calibers?

Yeah the ballistics in 10-15 inch barrels are interesting. For example you would think 30-30 would be a lot more powerful than a 30 herrett or 300 blk but it’s not in short barrels. The 30 herrett matches it with 10 grains less powder in a 10 inch barrel. All the extra powder in the 30-30 gets wasted into the air but you still get the recoil. One cartridge I think would be a nice deer caliber in an encore pistol is a 6.5 creedmore. Should be pretty efficient in a 15” barrel. 243 always struck me as a silly caliber in a handgun. It’s just going to be all fireballs and bang.
The 6 Creed and the 6XC, both of which have less case capacity than the 243 Winchester, and we can hit Prairie dog size target out to 1175 yards on the 3rd shot from a cold bore (Neck shot) and larger steel right at 1600 yards.

I failed to see the silliness, myself. Last year I killed an antelope at over 400 yards with a 15.5” 6 Creed using the 105 grain A-Max.
I’ve also competed with the 6 mm long dasher 6mm-6.5x47 Lapua which is necked down and improved at 500 yards out of a 15 inch XP, and even with three different five shot groups at 500 yards in a match the results are impressive.

Don’t discount the short action 6 mm rounds in a specialty pistol.
Even more over bore is a 22 Creed in a XP

One scary accurate cartridge a friend had for XP was in 6mmBR - that made most rifles look poor (he was also an excellent shot to begin with)

I gave up the encore completely and went to AR 15 for anbout all my hunting needs. From 223 to 6.5 Grendel pistol. Also 7.62x39.

I have a G-2, but I primarily use center-grip and rear-grip bolt action specialty pistols (Typically XP-100's and XP-100R's), and several MOA's and Dominators.
I do have a Seekins AR-Pistol with two of their uppers (7" and 15.9") Rock 1-7 twist barrels that shoot great.

I have two Contender frames and one G2 frame, plus 18 mostly handgun caliber barrels (with two duplicate calibers, but different lengths). If I were to be asked, do I have three Thompsons or 18?

PS: Do not believe the claim that all Contenders barrels interchange between frames.

G2 frame with 2 12 inch mgm barrels. One in 22lr and one in 223.

CCI standard velocity
Burris 2-7 scope
Rested
50 yards

Laser accuracy.

I'm thinking about picking one up and having it set up for deer by next season. I found a couple of threads but they're a few years old. I would get it in .243 Win. Anyone have them? Or shot them?

I have a Thompson Contender Encore Pro Hunter in .308. The gun is Stainless. I have not mounted any optics on it as of yet. I bought it as a "fun gun". It is very accurate with it's 16" barrel, and delivers good velocity. Every bit as good as my DPMS AP-4 Carbine in .308 with the same length barrel. The recoil is very stout, as you can imagine. It's a well made pistol. I'm eventually going to pick up a extra barrel for it in .223 / 5.56 MM. It will be a little easier to shoot, and I have a ton of .223 ammo from all of my AR's.

I also have a Remington XP-100 in .35 Remington. It's fitted with a 2-1/2 - 7X Burris Scope in Leupold rings and mounts. I got the coffee laminated thumbhole stock on a closeout from Fajen, and it dropped right in. With handloads with the bullets seated .030 to .040 off the lands, it will shoot one hole groups off the bench for as long as you want to load, squeeze, and shoot. This stock helps control the recoil much better than the Contender above.
