Have decided to "bite the bullet" , sorry makes be laugh and ordered a accurate mold . The taping the mold works but gets old having to retape every while , ok if doing it for a few bullets , tried powder coating and bullets didn't turn out way I was hoping , shot a few of the larger diameter bullets in other carbine and it hurt the accuracy with it so will keep the .459 mold for it so can't try the lapping method . Thanks for all your help will keep updated when try out my new mold .

I have a lee hb 405 mold that was modified for gas checks. It makes bullets over ..465. If you want to try it.

Somebody at church today use to have a Trapdoor carbine and told me before they sold it he used a model 46-405H said he liked the large lube grooves and it shot in his very good . Thanks for the offer Troy but think I am good . Accurate's website said about 3 weeks out but some said may get it a little sooner . If I don't feel like messing with the beagling method I got plenty other rifles to play with , got a Martini Henry that shoots way better then I am capable of .

Just a thought. When you select one of those moulds be careful to pay attention to the measurement which represents the distance from the crimp groove to the base, assuming that you plan to order a crimp groove design, or plan to load the bullet up to the crimp groove.

More of the bullet length inside the case will decrease air space and increase smokeless pressures.
It also reduces the volume of black powder that you can load, obviously.

But, you probably know this already.

Wanted to give a update . The Accurate mold got here in about a week , website said would be 3 weeks . Made some bullets up and loaded them but could not go shooting till today . Was using 50 yards . Before was getting 6-8 inches but this time shot a 1 1/2 inch group with my loads that is super shooting for me with my eyes . Hope can get same results next time at 100 yards .Will make up more ammo to cause only made up 5 rounds . Thanks to everyones help and a BIG thanks to Accurate Molds .

Wow! One week. Good to know.

1 1/2" groups are great with a Trapdoor alright. Great work on the casting and shooting.

I don't cast so I load up bullets from Missouri Bullets and @50 yards my groups will run just a hair under 2" which makes me happy enough. Your groups dropping from as much as 8" down to 1 1/2" is some achievement . Well done Sir.

The pat on the back goes to Accurate Molds . When you get the right size bullet for the barrel makes all the difference . And also did some work on my old shooting rest by putting new firmer foam on it . And somedays it seams the stars and planets are just lined up right and you can't miss you know . If I can go back out and still shoot under 3" I would still be a happy camper .
