I bought the Wrangler because of the goofy safety on heritage. Cost alittle more. Worth it to me. The Wranglers are ruff but what do you expect from a $200 revolver? Kinda wish it came with a 22 mag cylinder.

Both my Rough Rider and Single Six come with Mag cylinders. I have tested for correct function with both and haven't used either one much since. Haven't shot my Rough Rider since I bought my Single Six. I bet the Wrangler competes with the other 22lr revolvers in its price range very well.

Hope yours is a good shooter. Being Ruger I bet it is.

That make two threads from new Wrangler owners going at one time. Maybe Ruger really has made some of the revolvers after all.

They continue to be a Internet rumor in my parts. I wonder if Ruger is having quality control or production problems.

I, too, have yet to see one in person....... But heard they were selling a lot of them..... When a new gun sells great I usually figure it'll be another 6 months to a year before I ever get to see one. It took a long time before I ever got to see the Ruger PC Carbines when they were introduced. Bought the first one I ever saw and I may be unable to resist the first Wrangler I see. Even though I already have a Single Six Convertible in 22lr / 22Mag..

Bought both my Wrangler and PC carbine at academy. Both at decent prices. Caught the PC on sale at $450. Regular $520 I believe. Forgot Wranglers $200.00

I believe the finish on the Rough Rider is also paint and not up to the quality of the baked on Ceracote finish on the Ruger.

The Rough Rider is indeed also painted. But it does come with wood grips instead of the Ruger's polymer ones. Still, the Wrangler's can be swapped out for any that fit the Single Six, so I hear.

This is a big problem for the LGS's out there. Unless they're a really big LGS, they'll never be able to get newly released, high demand guns in stock in less than a year's time, if not longer. The two closest lgs near me don't have any last I checked, nor the Kel Tec CP33. The biggest lgs is 45 minutes away and even if they had them, they're not worth my time driving there.

The reason it's a problem is I've just given up on buying new guns at gun stores and I'm sure I'm not alone. Even if it's something they can get on order from their distributor, the last time I did that, it took them a month to get the gun in; had I ordered it online I would have had it in less than a week and paid less too.

I have only seen them at 2 LGSs around me.
One had all 3 colors, the other only had 1. I did get to handle one and it felt solid just like one would expect from Ruger but was very stiff. I'm sure a couple hundred rounds would cure that. I was ready to jump on the Wrangler band wagon but I think since I already have 4 HRRs I may go all the way to a Single Six instead.

As for purchasing guns? Private sale or LGS. I like to support my local economy.

I don’t need a Wrangler so i will wait and support my local LGS.

I have looked at and handled a couple of Wranglers and liked what I saw. Not so much with the RR's I have handled. A wrangler might be in my future if I didn't have a couple of single sixes now. And the fact that it doesn't have a 22 mag cylinder is sort of a deal killer. I like the 22 mag round and shoot a lot of it. Or I used to. Yes it cost more but its a real step up in power and comes with a real jacketed bullet if you stay away for the CCI junk with its soft plated bullet that can't hold up to the extra velocity.

Heritage Rough Riders have the painted-on finish.
Ruger Wranglers have a Cerakote finish.

Cerakote finishes:
1) are ceramic-based.
2) exhibit high resistance to abrasion, impact, wear, corrosion, chemicals, and heat.
3) are widely used in the firearms industry to coat and protect parts.
4) are widely used as an industrial coating because of the above attributes.

I even saw a photo of a Ferrari with tailpipes with a Cerakote finish.
Sort of says it all.

I doubt it. It's just that they sell like hotcakes.

I have two of the three. They have the bronze cerakote at Academy, but the pistola budget is maxed right now. I like 'em.

Even with sharp close-up photos shot with plenty of light, the Wranglers just look so much better than the Rough Riders.

I don't think that there is much doubt that they are a better firearm. But. like you say, some shooters do want the combo option along with adjustable sights and maybe a 6 1/2" or 7 1/2" barrel length for greater sight radius and accuracy. I can't see much point in shooting a .22 magnum SA revolver frequently otherwise, considering the ammo cost.

On the other hand, some people just end up buying a combo .22 revolver (like me) because it's available with the options that they want, and they can inspect it first at their LGS before they buy. They don't need or particularly want the .22 magnum cylinder, but it comes with the gun that they want. Also, with Ruger at least, the solo-cylinder .22 Single Six choices are limited, so you end up having to buy the combo.
That isn't a negative really, because the price difference often isn't that much, and that spare cylinder is desired by others if you end up selling the revolver later. But, many will buy the gun, shoot 50 rounds of .22 magnum out of it just for the heck of it, and then clean and store the spare cylinder safely away, never to be used by them again.

Anyway, I guess that Ruger is selling so many Wranglers right now that they don't see any need to offer more barrel and sight options, or a combo gun. Or, maybe they just don't want to compete against themselves with the Single Six.

I just saw a Wrangler the other day at Academy for $200. I have a Rough Rider and like it, but I'd be very tempted if I didn't.

I finally got mine a couple weeks ago. It is very nice for a inexpensive single action revolver. It will look even nicer when I make some English Walnut grips for it.

I wondering if Ruger will make 22LR/22Mag combo like the Rough Rider?

I have a pair now, both from small local shops.
