The Knob Creek event should be on every gun owner's bucket list. Go at least once. But the actual machine gun shoot gets old, fast, especially if you're not on the firing line. The reason I went multiple times was the gun show in the Pole Barn. If you're into collecting military or full-automatic stuff, there are things there that you will find nowhere else -- not even at the SAR shows. But if you go primarily for the gun show, the adjoining MG shoot is an annoyance. All the noise emanating from the shoot prevents decent conversations with the vendors. So, eventually, for me, even the gun show became not worth the trip. What I'm saying is that the typical Knob Creek attendee is subject to burnout. A little of this goes a long way.

Of course to each his own, but as I attend the gun show negotiation a deal for a fine firearm amidst the sounds of artillery and automatic weapons fire while inhaling the smells of burning vehicles and spend gun powder. Sometimes having to raise my voice to be heard over the dirge of noise, I must say that my nether regions some times do stir..

It's so good that ABC new used its footage of Knob Creek as footage of Turkeys incursion into Syria! They got caught doing it! FAKE NEWS.

Agreed, but if we venture in politics not related to guns this thread will get shut down, so I didn't want to go there.

When I was a little kid, the neighbor kid and I would skateboard. His parents were very private people and not alot of people were allowed into the home but as I was friends with the son I could go in every now and then. I didnt know what they were at the time but I now know the father had the proper NFA liscensing and the basement was filled with machine guns, browning 1919's, maxims, M60's, etc...

Anyway, sometimes when the father was away I'd ask where he went and the son would tell me he was away at an AIR Show or machine gun shoot. If it were my dad I would have been all over those shoots but the son couldnt care less about it. I remember one day the black guy from the movie Broken Arrow was there, apparently involved in Class 3 sales in some manor.

I went twice. Then I became too old to comfortably walk that far. My expectations of being able to get a good view of the action were thwarted by the huge crowds who were always in my way or sitting in the only available seating. Then, after the show, having to wait two hours just to get out of the place in a monumental traffic jam.

Fortunately the case of beer I had on ice made the parking stranding a minor difficulty. :)

As AlexanderA said, it should be on every shooter's bucket list. You can see, and buy, just about anything!

Interesting video .... I was wondering how the Knob Creek shoot footage could be used as fake war footage with everyone at a range shooting ..... but that night footage could pass muster for war footage in the video editing room of most network tv stations.

I've never been to Know Creek. I'd love to go ..... but the crowds would seriously wear me.

Hi...
I went last year with my son for the fall shoot and thoroughly enjoyed.
Rented four or five automatic weapons to shoot and then watched the night shoot.
Great fun!!!
Getting out of the venue afterwards is a long process...but a small price to pay.
Where else am I going to get to shoot , a BAR, a Thompson sub machine gun, a belt fed .30cal machine gun and a German MP40 sub machine gun from WWII???

Went once as I usually shot that range weekly. When I I got to the shoot I saw a ge mini gun offered to anyone foolish enough to spend $75.00. I shot the thing since in Viet Nam I never got the opportunity. In a way, I'm glad I never did.

I live about a hour away, I have been going since 1993, I went 16 yrs straight without missing , over last 5 years, 2 knee replacements, and work schedule caused me to miss a few. I was there this past weekend. The gun show to me is the main reason I go. When you see a event like this, especially the night shoots, it makes you feel proud to live in USA!! I have got to know a lot of great people over the years, one of the vendors I personally know said he met 2 people from France. Difentially put this on your bucket list!! Be sure and get a motel 3 to 4 months in advance. Paton museum is at Fort Knox, about 6 miles away, great place to stop. No tax dollars supports this, its all from donations, even though it's at the edge of base.

I have thought about going many times but after reading about traffic and walking I think I’ll stay home. I’ve reached the point physically that even the big shoot at the other end of the spectrum - Friendship - is more walking than I can handle.

For those complaining about the crowds, etc., I suggest going on Friday and timing your arrival before they open at 9:00 a.m. It's not difficult to find a motel along Dixie Highway in Louisville for Thursday night. Then you can clear out of the area by late afternoon on Friday. Of course, by doing this, you miss the night shoot -- but you have to weigh that against the inconvenience involved in staying the weekend.

If you're in the Pole Barn gun show, out of the direct view of the firing line, you can tell which guns are being fired just from the sound alone. The M134 Minigun is certainly unique. Whoever owns that thing is spending (wasting) a fortune in ammo. It must be nice to have money to burn (literally).

I went once a few years ago, interesting, unique experience. The marketplace itself is enormous, hours to see everything.

I tried several machine & submachine gun’s, as much as my wallet would bear. We arrived a little later, so parked a ways from the entrance, which turned out to be a good thing. When it came time to leave, we were closer to the road.

To me it was a “one and done”, I doubt I’ll ever go back a second time.

If you go, be sure to bring adequate ear protection. The big shoot in late afternoon, think myriod large machine guns, tanks, etc. at once, is deafening.

I’d love to have salvage rights for all that brass. lol

I have a couple of friends that have attended but I never have made it. I doubt now that I ever will, what with my walking issues. I wish I had made more effort to attend back when I was up to it. But having a very demanding job, I had to pick and choose what I did in the limited off time that I had.

The weather is usually a factor at Knob Creek. Typically you get mud in the spring and dust storms in the fall. I suggest taking duck shoes, an umbrella, and a way to wash up at your car before leaving for the day.

I thought they had shuttles to transport the people who had parked way far away?

I live two hours away and I’ve never been. I drove by once and they were parking on the shoulder of the main highway so I just kept on driving. I’ll go one day, God willing.
