Hidden Gun

See I never understand this mentality. Wouldn't it be easier to just carry a pocket pistol?

The neighborhood I'm in now is an area of older homes and a fair number of senior citizens. I'm in & out of the house so often, walking to neighbor's houses, no CCW, I don't "need" to carry here. I just need to have them "available".

So you're neighborhood is so safe that you don't need to carry but it's dangerous enough that you need to stash guns all over your house?

Not really. That is just "carry-over" from where I used to live and the fact that I live alone now. Being an old "boy scout", I just like "being prepared". There have been some residential burglaries, one in the mid-afternoon, as well as break-ins to outbuildings.

Back and neck injuries I'm recovering from make pocket carrying a necessity for me, and it's comfortable enough that carrying in that manner around the house is best for me. We've had break ins in our neighborhood, so I always carry at home. I also have a 12 year old who lives with me and there are often friends and family in the house who are not familiar with guns, so having guns hidden around the house with the chance that someone may find one and do something unsafe with it isn't an option for me.

I pocket carry when I'm in the yard or in the garage but in the evenings when I'm just wearing gym shorts or track pants I just carry a pocket knife with me, and that's not necessarily for protection. When lived alone I had a few guns throughout the house in various drawers or behind pictures, now that I've got small kids there's 3 pistol boxes around the house with both flashlights and loaded handguns in each. I'll admit there is one "unsecured" handgun in one particular area of my house, but its so well hidden I'm highly confident it's safe from intruders and kids. Not even my wife knows where it is or has ever run across it.

Have you read some of the accounts of people who have been burglarized here? How the thieves tore apart everything in the house?

I'm surprised that the thieves/burglars stayed so long to do that with the alarm blaring and the cops on the way.

I have, and I'm still very, very confident it wouldn't be found. It's in a ridiculously odd place that's unique to my house that most people don't even know exists. I could move out of my house and leave it there and I doubt it'd be found for years by the next occupant.

I use these, very strong magnets:

I have a couple of shotguns and a couple of handguns around the house. Rest of the guns are in a safe. My household is a bit different than most. 6 adults. 3 generations of the family. All with firearms training. Half of those people are either retired or disabled. Add in the various shifts those that work do, and you end up with a house that is rarely without at least one of us home. There are also 3 dogs, and we are in a rural area. So no one is going to surprise us. Four legged threats are more of a concern than two legged ones.

Kids long gone, and no regular visitors.

I have guns stashed throughout the house, a couple of canes and knives here and there, and carry guns whenever I leave the property.; at least an auto knife whenever I go outside, even to just walk the dog (she can more than hold her own, too). It’s worked fine for us the last 20+ years, so I’ll continue on. Yes, I have training in h2h and blades in addition to firearms.

I’m not overly concerned what others living is less free states think about it, or anyone else for that matter. My thoughts on such things are “whatever works for you.”

I don't believe in hiding my guns against my "good friends". If I have to worry about being shot by my "good friends", then I need to either 1) move somewhere else, or 2) radically reassess my life and why I feel threatened all the time.

Saw this online. Apparently it's at the Hank Williams Museum.
Just be careful when cleaning your home with hidden guns and maybe let the wife know where they are.

Be realistic about your circumstances. With my life and circumstances, I cannot do this. I have an autistic child who has no boundaries and a truly dazzling ability to look for and stuff in places where nobody else ever would. There is no place in my home which would be safe from curious fingers.

If you are truly a single guy who never needs to worry about these kinds of issues, you do you. But then, even STILL, one day you will have something happen in your house that makes you think; "Hmmm. I probably shouldn't have had a gun under the table while that person was here."

In that respect, we are in similar circumstances. Have you ever "repurposed" a piece of junk into something more usable? A couple of years ago, an old umbrella tore the fabric too badly to repair, so I removed all the struts and ribs, cleaned it up, then somewhat sharpened the metal spike on the tip. It's not real sharp but is more pointed than it was originally so it can be used to puncture something. The only bad thing is that the stem is hollow and would bend fairly easily. It also has the curved handle that could be used to yank someone's leg or hand out of position.

You're right. With an inquisitive child like that, you can't afford to take the chance that they would find something dangerous. I wish you both the best of luck with your situation.
As previously stated, I'm "retired", currently live alone, don't CC or OC, etc. I don't OC, esp. in the summer because I perspire so profusely and don't wish to damage either the guns or the holsters. That doesn't mean I'm "unarmed"; it just means I'm not carrying a firearm. When I do go out, I have a 3.5" single-blade folder in a leather holster on my belt and a 3-blade pocket knife in my pocket with my keys.
Plus, I don't fight "fair". I fight (if necessary) to "win". Head butts, groin kicks, eye pokes (Soitenly !! Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk !), and even biting aren't beneath me. I learned that last one when I wandered into the "wrong" place in TJ in 1976 and they tried to take my 35mm camera. The big guy grabbed his hand back very quickly when I snapped my head forward, mouth wide open and almost got a couple of his fingers. That gave me the seconds I needed to "vamoose" !!

Same. The only time I will ever have a firearm without a lock is when it is on me or in arms reach. My 6 year old has demonstrated that he can rack the pump on a 12ga, so even a "cruiser" ready pump isn't a good staged firearm.
