That reflects the decline of hunting and the increased interest in self defense, as a reason for gun ownership. And that people are buying pistols in preference to long guns, for self defense.

I wonder what the change would be if you could count those purchases in states were NICS isn't required for CCW holder?

Georgia would be one. None of my purchases/transfers through FFLs has even gone through a NICS check.
So in Georgia all those purchases represent transfers to non-CCW holders.

An interesting article. While I didn't go way into the statistics, I did read the article. It made me wonder if President Obama's "salesmanship" wasn't so much a function of the rhetoric coming from his administration as it was the civil unrest that the news media glorified.
