Is anybody going to San Antone?
Hello all I am wanting to turn this gun into a dedicated defensive weapon, I have a .454 and other .44s to hunt with so this thing is the platform I have chosen to be my frankengun. I want to put a gold bead front sight and change the rear sight to fixed. I want to put some nice combat grips on it and the hogue extended cylinder release button. Any other thoughts or suggestions? Replace the existing target trigger with a rounded trigger to aid double-action use. Find an excellent holster. Be sure you new grips will clear a speed loader.

Swap that conversion grip out for a round butt. Rubber if for shooting, wood for show.

I like the fixed rear sight idea. I have one somewhere in the spare parts box but have not installed it yet on any of my N-frames. Looks like that 629 you have has the slip in front sights. Give the fiber optics front sights a try. I like them.

Since "real men" only shoot double-action bob the hammer of if you're not that "manly" :neener: then reduce the spur size. My 625 has a very small spur, less likely to get snagged but still let you shoot single action if you succumb to that crutch. :p

The most obvious mod is cut the cylinder for moonclips because all true round-gun lovers know MOONCLIPS RULE!! :D

I have a 625 PC that I have used in comp and hikes, I love most of your suggestions. The 625 is actually the reason for the bead sight up front I have never used fiber optic sights what brands should I be looking for?

On my S&W large frame revos, I find I prefer the adjustable sights and a black, serrated ramp for range work, with a narrow, smooth, rounded trigger for double action work. Grips are your choice. Putting in the gold bead front sight is easy with the quick change front sight system. I would shoot it with the current sight setup to see what the sight heights are and order a front sight of appropriate height.

I customized my 629 "No Dash" with front and rear night sights and Pachmayr Presentation grips. It serves as my nightstand gun here in our Colorado foothills home with bedroom windows at grade. Also sees duty when "out and about" in prime bear & cat areas, like our backyard.
