Another yard sale find

Very nice! I worked as a farmhand for a dairy farmer all through junior and high school...the farmer gifted one of those to me as a Christmas gift one of those years (and it was a great knife to have when i re-wired our first “fixer” home)...to this day it resides in my knife drawer but thinking back of what great early learning experiences i had (the farm and the fixer) it should be getting some occasional carry use...

Not a yard sale but I found this in a box of kitchen knives at a garage sale. It's a old Cutco No. 20 Paring Knife and I really like the shape and contours of the handle. A sweet little knife, very ergonomic, at least for my smaller size hand, and capable of doing some intricate carving with that blade.

Gunny, that knife has seen some use, I bet it could tell some stories!
I adopted (found) it back in 1984 while training in the Mojave Desert. It’s traveled around the world with me.
The green rope that’s attached to it would be tied to the top of my seabag and then dropped in before packing. No matter where we arrived, once I had my seabag, all I had to do was open my bag and pull the rope and I would have my knife.

I make them out fishing leader material (usually 30 or 40lb since I use quite a bit of it and it’s always at hand) whenever I know a tool (knife, screwdriver, wrench, etc.) will be used in or around water... not in lanyard configuration but as a loop to go around my wrist for retention purposes... It’s a very bad feeling losing a valued tool to the salt (which I’ve done on more than one occasion). I even have a brand new full sized Benchmade blade kept on my skiff as an emergency backup that already has a mono loop installed...
