What distance is your .22 LR zeroed at?

110 yards. That’s how far it is from the front porch to the four inch swinging target at the edge of the woods. Recently had neck surgery for compressed nerves in my neck. 22lr is all I can shoot for a little while so I sit on the front porch and plink at it. Still pulling a trigger and it’s lots of fun.

The big thing with a scope on a .22 is parallax. Most .22 scopes have the parallax set for 50 yards, but big game scopes are set at 100 yards. Unless you have an adjustable objective lens on the scope so you can set it for the distance you are shooting, you have to be very conscious of your cheek weld and head position on the gun. If you don't get your head in the same position on the gun you will see the cross hairs move on the target.

I sighted my squirrel hunting 22lr's at 25 yards. I did make a fifty yard shot on a squirrel, but that was very unusual. The woods are so thick that having an unobstructed 50 yard view is the exception. Unluckily for the squirrel, he was in the top of a very tall tree!

All my small bore prone rifles are zero'd at 50 yards, because that is where the Dewar starts!

Then it is 8 MOA up for the 100 yard targets

I use the the same 250 yard zero most of my rifles are sighted in with. That way I can practice at 250 with no hold over. I am only 16 inches high at 50, 26 inches high at 100 and about 19.5 high at 200. Since I am alway shooting high, I just learned where to hold under the target and it is easy to get hits at all ranges. Since I am holding low, it is easy to see if I miss and how much more I have to lower the scope to connect. Just kidding, I had to work to day and my brain is a bit scrambled and worn out from working with teachers all morning! Their logic sometimes wears me out....I use a 50 yard zero for most of my .22 LR's.

50 yards. I have killed several groundhogs at 100 yards with my 22 sighted in at 50 yards with a little hold over and Mini-Mags. That's about all that I could expect from a .22. For accuracy at 50 yards CCI Green Tag and Remington Target are more accurate. This in a Kimber model 82.

Again you guys have been great and I appreciate your input. Mostly I shoot pistols and scopes are just not my thing. I have a few scoped rifles but I usually grab the go to iron sight rifles for general plinking.

I tried to get my son comfortable with iron sights then found out he was in serious need of glasses. Today was his first time shooting with his glasses. I always figured he just struggled with the iron sights getting things lined up. I guess now it's my turn to make sure his rifle is dialed in.

Kimber 82 Custom Classic - I shoot CCI .22 Quiet almost exclusively - zeroed at 25 yards but I have made shots with a tad of holdover out to 50 yards with no problem. This rifle shoots everything well but the POI changes depending on manufacturer. The .22 Quiet is a very accurate round with very low report - excellent squirrel medicine.

My squirrel .22 rifle, Marlin 60, is zeroed at 35yrds and I also shoot CCI Quiets exclusively out of it. The .22 Quiets are a very accurate round, plus with a low report, it's as quiet as my springer air rifle. With a 35 yrd zero, POI is very close from 25 to 75yrds, good enough to knock squirrels out of trees in those ranges. I very rarely will shoot past 75 yrds, 50 and under mostly.

Mine came pre zeroed with 25,50 and 100 meter flip ups.
When I had a scoped one. I zeroed at 75. It kept me inside a rabbit head to 85. After that Kentucky windage came in.

16" barrel AR with a CMMG 22 LR conversion kit ... 10 year old son ... 50-100 feet
My two CMMG 22LR conversions in 16"/18"/20" barrels produce groups much larger than my 10/22 at 25/50 yards.

Since your son is shooting close distances, I would zero the scope for median distance to target. With distance range of 15 to 35 yards, I would think 25 yard zero should work for your son.

-----sorry to briefly de-rail thread----
That BSA looks like a sweetheart.
I have a BSA cadet (finally identified thanks to THR) that is similar that was converted in the 60's to 22 rimfire, it is unbelievably accurate. I don't shoot it in any kind of competition besides informal sunday afternoon stuff against buddies who think their 22s shoot well, it has fixed more than a few of their attitudes. May i suggest a martini action, rimfire only informal target competition thread take place soon?
