I would purchase one for that and give it to my SIL for Christmas, he has had one of mine for over a year and loves it. I bought some in the 80s and cleaned one, the others are still FULL of cosmoline and some of the ammo is still in wooden boxes.

Wow..... Last SKS I purchased was a used Chinese similar to that one in Jan. 2013. From an FFL who had cleaned them up before selling. Cost me 450 bucks back then. I would have gladly paid $206.99 and cleaned it up myself. Kind of surprised to see it still has not only that dreaded bayonet lug but the actual folding bayonet as well.

I was in Ottawa a few months ago on work travel. The guys I met with told me about buying them and how cheap ammo was.

Your response make me educate myself concerning Canadian firearm regulations. It would seem to me that as long as you have a firearm acquisition license you can buy whatever you like but the storage, handling, and loading regulations are a bit much in comparison to your southern neighbor.

I wish we could simply go over the border and buy some stuff they have and bring it back. Legally of course. I'm only 1 1/2 hours from the border. Some days for work I pass several bridges that go over into Canada. Now it's a pain. 20, 30 years ago it was a 20 minute run over and back to get some good Canadian beer. No questions asked.

Well, that may be true for myself. Others would also like to be able to buy restricted firearms (AR-15, handguns), which is possible with additional education and the compliance to more restrictions with regards to usage, handling and storage, and prohibited firearms (automatic firearms, shorter handguns, and more), which are just for government authorities such as police and army.
