I own less than 10 guns. I have the original boxes for all but three so I have the serial numbers on the boxes.

It never occurred to me to write them down anywhere but I'm thinking I should.

I don't want to put them on a device anywhere because devices fail

I'm thinking about just writing down the serial numbers and leaving them in my wallet.

Does anybody have any better suggestions?

I keep a full descriptive listing on my laptop including where and when acquired, cost, any mods or accessories. Like everything digital, laptops can and do fail. I keep an external drive backup here and another backup offsite.

I created a spreadsheet and keep two copies, one on my home computer and one at work. I also video everything in my home every few years in case of fire and keep that at work as well.

I keep identity documents and and an external hard drive with pictures and music and other files, and notebook with important info in a fire resistant lockbox, locked in a file cabinet in my office. One other person knows it’s there in the event of my death. I keep such info there.

Most of mine are Smith and Wessons, so...........on the bottom of the gripframe. :D

But seriously, I have a ledger in my firesafe that records each gun by model, serial number, caliber, approximate age, any interesting features, and what I think its worth in case my family has to sell them when Im gone. There is a flash drive in there with good pics (including serial numbers) as well, to aid in theft recovery, if necessary.

Do you keep a paper copy anywhere?

ETA: My guns are insured, so I guess the insurance company has photos and a description and the serial numbers on all of them. I'm still going to write it down and keep it in my wallet

I write them down on paper. Take a picture of that with my phone. Email it to myself.

I also have an Excel file full of info and pictures that I get around to updating every so often and then email that to myself.

Other than the Excel file, they are all really easy to manage and update.

I keep several paper copies in a couple of fire resistant lock boxes along with photos of every gun and heir approximate value. The wife and two of the kids know where everything is at.

In documentary pictures, among my photo albums, in the cloud.

And printed in the safe.

I keep a spreadsheet on my computer which gets backed up to a network drive that's inside my safe, and another external drive I store outside the house.

Pictures can be emailed to yourself with the serial number. Also I keep them on a 3x5 card taped to the underside of my gun cabinet for guns stored there, and the ones in vehicles are on a 3x5 card in the zipper pouch where the registration and insurance for that vehicle is kept.

I have digital pictures, including close-ups of the S/Ns, on my phone, but not uploaded to the cloud. I have those same pictures saved on a USB drive, and a paper copy of the S/Ns, in a fireproof safe.

I have mine, as well as pics. in an email to myself. on a CD and on a memory stick. I also have them written down in a small book Bianchi used to publish that is hidden. IF my guns get stolen or lost in a calamity, I have proof for the insurance and police (if need be) that I owned those items.

On two pocket notebooks. One stays in safe, the other on top of my cabinets. Just in case the whole safe is stolen.

I have a spreadsheet with all the info. It’s on my laptop and in the cloud. There’s a hard copy in the safe with the guns.

I am trying to get to way under 10 guns total and not much of any real value, so it’s becoming a moot point for me as my most expensive gun is $2500 and my deductible is close to that.

My insurance policy also required guns be listed by serial number, so the info is there too.

There’s also a hard copy with my will in another safe that has my cash, deeds, titles, vital records, etc. Only my wife and my brother have the combination and the only reason to access it is if I die. Or my wife wants to liquidate our cash and run off with a new man.
