Hey yall. I recently acquired a Springfield Mil-Spec in .45acp. I managed to get it out today and ran approximately 200 rounds of hard ball, both Wolf and Rem UMC 230gr, without a single failure or malfunction. I am extremely pleased with the accuracy of this handgun.

My first twenty rounds were benched from 7/10/15/25 yards with the UMC 230gr, five rounds at each distance (I accidently put 6 rounds on the 15yd target). My only modifcations thus far have been adding cocobolo double diamond grips and a sheet metal Wilson Combat front grip strap as well as painting to front sight dot orange. The trigger is extremely crisp with about a 1/16th of a inch of take up with about a 5-6 pound pull. It was very easy to shoot this gun accurately. As a side note, no hammer bite, although the inside of my thumb where it rides on the thumb safety is quite sore.

Now for the pictures!

Looks good.

I have a similar version (Defender series), and so far, Springfield is on the road to redemption with it and me. For the short while Ive been shooting it, its been a decent and reliable shooter. :)

Just curious here, but mine has the SS barrel and bushing (yours doesnt appear to have that), and is "very" tight. You cant take it down without some sort of tool to get the bushing to move. Is yours this tight too?

Mine also has the stainless barrel and bushing, but I did not need a wrench for mine. In spite of this, it is noticeably tighter than a Colt 1991 I had several years ago. The fit and finish of this Mil Spec appears so far to be on par with the Colt I had previously.

From your pics, yours looked parked. Must be the lighting.

Mines really tight, You cant move the bushing with your fingers alone.

This is mine....

The first pics from the link were at the range after blowing through 200 rounds, so the stainless bushing was covered in carbon build up! In my years of shooting 1911s, I find .45s seem to do this faster than most other calibers.

I bought one new back in 2013 and still have it. It's been a good shooting, trouble free gun with great accuracy

Traded into one in stainless steel, owner bought it new 3-4 years ago & never shot it.
My experience is the same as yours- great trigger (mine's 4.5lbs), very accurate & easy to shoot well. Very tight, but 100% reliable (knocks on wood) so far. Might rather have the parked version, but highly satisfied nonetheless.

I've had mine since 2000. Great shooting gun, eats brass and steel case like candy. It's a bit finicky when it comes to aluminum case, though.

I really like my Defender. No frills 1911 that I own for fun that gets carried around the lake property from time to time. Not the most accurate 1911 in my hands, but this is the first one I have owned with an arched mainspring housing, so that may have something to do with it.

I can't see myself doing anything to the gun short of replacing the recoil spring as needed. 9 do need to get some better mags. My 19 dollar cheapie is for range use only. The mag that came with it and an 8 rounder I had that came with a RIA years ago work OK, but I need a couple of good mags to go with it. Might pick one or two up today, actually.
