A guy on Armslist wants to trade a GSG 1911 .22LR. In the description he said it currently has a broken spring or something along those lines because the hammer won't stay in a "cocked" position. Doesn't describe the problem any more. What might be the problem with this gun? He has it listed for $150 but would rather trade. If the fix is easy enough I would probably dicker with him on it.
Thank in advance

Could be a spring, the sear, or the hammer. It could be that there's nothing broken--could just be that the gun wasn't assembled properly and the sear spring leg isn't placed correctly.

No way to know what the problem is, so no way to know if it's easy or cheap.

Condition on the gun looks a little rough even without the function problem and even with the poor lighting in the picture that obscures the details.

2 things... it’s a cheap gun so it may legitimately be trash. BUT it’s a cheap gun with limited emphasis on internals being cleaned up, it may just need a detail strip and reassembly. For 150 I would risk it because those guns are simple and pretty common. If it’s a broken part then you can probably find it cheap enough to still be way ahead in the long run. Having owned a couple of those in the past I would feel fine jumping in at 150.

I always - it it has SELDOM proven wrong - suspect a dirty firearm or bits of ammunition componentry in the case of a faulty .22 semi-auto.

Todd.

I'd take a chance maybe, but then I've fixed guns for many years. Bought many a car and gun that needed a minor part or minor work for cheap. But then, I can tell when I look at it what's wrong and know whether fixing it is worth it.

Could be the hammer spring or sear engagement. You will have to remove the hammer in order to get to the sear anyway so you will find out one way or another what is broken. New sear on Numrich is $11.75, out of stock. So parts are cheap.

I'd be temped at $50.

If you buy it, and fix it with a good cleaning. . . you'll still own a really cheap, crappy pistol.
