What will and will not improve public safety in firearms violence prevention

There is no such thing as firearms violence.

The main thing to keeping violence at bay is to keep those convicted of violence behind bars or put them in the ground. I also think most non violent convicted felons could use more time locked up.

For the rest, well theres no way to stop it all. Best bet is to promote law abiding citizens to arm themselves and promote protecting themselves.

There is no utopia.

Of course there isn't ! This is just one of the many "word games" libs do to obscure reality. Inanimate objects don't "cause" anything ! They are just being misused by the actual "creator" of the violence. But libs can't hold some "poor, down-trodden, misunderstood" perp responsible as people like that are their means of keeping the lie going. o_O
I know, I know, I'm preaching to the choir.

There's a plethora of actions that can reduce gun violence, but they'll never fly here. Check out what Australia did and what the stats show now vs. then. Not arguing for or against, but do not buy there is nothing that could ever be done. Politically in this country that's correct, nothing I can think of would help. Absolute world, incorrect.

Anything you could do to have a real effect would have nothing to do with guns, and everything to do with better education, jobs, and economic circumstances. The relationship between crime and economics is pretty well established by now.

Most researchers have found little empirical support for the idea that changes in punishments do much to deter crime (three-strikes, etc.), as emotionally satisfying as we might find them.

We don't do a very good job of enforcing a strict code of zero tolerance for habitual violent offenders. We've allowed lawyers, psycho-quacks and "advocacy groups" to take control of our judicial system and as a result we just warehouse what are basically animals at a great cost to society both in terms of economics and public safety. I also don't believe in "rehabilitation". I don't think you can ever "rehabilitate" someone that has proven repeatedly they have no emotional empathy for their fellow citizens. At the risk of sounding extreme, I believe our society is better off being rid of that element, and as a society we used to deal with it in the harshest terms, but now we are no longer allowed to do that, and as a consequence we have entire geographical swaths that border on being lawless.

History and our daily press tells us that humans are a violent species; some cultures within our species are more violent than others. I do not know how to rid (some) humans of violent tendencies; I don’t think anyone knows how to do that. So as has always been, your “safety” falls to you.

Wandering unpleasantly into social and politics.
