hi
I have been reloading for a few years now
and I got a chance to use alliant pistol powder 351
they say to use accurate no 5/7 load data than it says to work up all loads minus 20 % not sure what to do any info will help
thanks in advance

Interesting. But saying to use the 5/7 data is pretty odd, because their charge weights can quite different and differ by several grains for the same bullet.

Maybe shoot Alliant an email and ask them if they have more information or load advice.

When in doubt, ask the manufacturer

That label reminds me of the old white-blue generic food labels from the 1970-80’s... BEER, SOUP, etc.

As the guys said, check with Alliant before using unknown loads. Let us know what they say .

EDIT: I was just thinking, was that a gun show purchase or a retail store purchase? I don’t see the Alliant symbol or address and it doesn’t look anything like the tall containers I have of Bullseye, Power Pistol, Unique etc. It almost looks like a repurposed jar of powder someone put together and labeled themselves.

Stay safe.

I would definitely call Alliant powder or shoot them an email before using any of that. I've never heard of it. I know when plastic bottles were first used some were white but that didn't last very long as sunlight was degrading the powder in them. I'd be very cautious with that stuff.
But I don't know what that stuff is.
I don't think I would attempt to use it without talking to Alliant powder.

AFAIK, Alliant markets that powder as HP-38. Alliant manufactured an identical powder and sold it to Winchester, who then relabeled it and sold it as W231.

To my knowledge at least, Alliant hasn’t ever sold powder under the w231 (or even just 231) name. Only Winchester did.

That label looks unprofessional and cheap. I wouldn’t trust it to accurately label baking soda, let alone fun powder. My phone auto corrected gun powder to fun powder. I’ll let it go...this time.

This is really weird. AA#5 and #7 have different burn rates. That makes no sense.

The label also looks like something a 14 year old made in his home computer in his basement.

Label from a gun show.

Vendor said they had purchased considerable drums of powder and had packaged as shown.

They also had other powders sourced from known ammunition of which they labeled the powder and sold.

This, as noted on a jug, was from 2000.

Always feels a bit better when you know the vendor and have history with them.

Hopefully you get the info you need. Stay safe

powder came from a gun show in Columbia sc

It is an "unknown" powder. You can not have the same load data for AA 5 and AA 7.!

Whatever you paid for it, it is not worth $30 or whatever it cost. I would no use it. Could be older than dirt and still unknown.

That label makes no sense. AA#5 and AA#7 are 2 different powders with 2 different burn rates.

I wouldn't use it.
