I think those are fine shooting grips if not the best for carry.

I usually go with the super compact grips on my .38s like those found on the Undercover/Off Duty. Not hand filling but nicer for pocket carry. I shoot a lighter recoil round in those guns, so really its a nonissue in terms of comfort. I went with some Pach Compacts for my larger Pittbull. I can't conceal that chunky monster in a pocket anyway, I went with the meatier option.

Truthfully, I find the stock rubber CA grips aesthetically hideous. I don't have huge hands, so a huge grip isn't needed. I personally would drop the $20 and pop on some wood grips. It'd really dress the gun up. I'm actually contemplating picking up a polished steel Undercover with the wooden grips soon. It's a bit garish, but not all of my .38s need to be ALL business

The original Bull dog grips fit the Undercover and are a perfect compromise between little bitty slick original Undercover grips and rubber over sized grips. I, my wife, and my buddy all did ours with Bull Dog grips back before Grenada. There is still one around the house.

I had an Undercover back in the mid '70s and found the Pachmayr Compac grips to be a good all-around choice for shooting and carrying. Tried the factory wood grips with a Tyler T-Grip adapter which was great for concealed carry but not so nice when using hotter loads.

I have the same grips, but mine have a silver medallion on both sides right above the screw hole that say Charter Arms.

I have the CA Bulldog .44 in Matt SS. It came with the Pachmayr type grips. I replaced the the grip with the factory wood combat style. I also hand polished the gun to bring out the SS. The gun now looks like a old Colt Detective. The grip carys well and changes the whole look.

I have one from 1966, one from 1985, and one from 1987. The oldest one has its original smooth, slim wooden stocks. The other two have their original sets of checkered wooden stocks, which are a tick thicker. All have the CA medallion.

I don't have any from the 1970s.
