Within the last 6 months I picked up a Gen. 1 Glock 17L. I am not much of a collector but know these are pretty rare pistols to come across, especially in good shape. I have tried to find buyers locally through Armslist but haven’t found anyone that interested. I know Gunbroker is probably my best option for getting top dollar, but I’ve never sold anything on Gunbroker before.
If I have no feedback for people to reference, is it likely someone will still bid on an item like this? I have tracked three of these pistols on Gunbroker over the past few months, and each has gone for $2000-$3500 depending on condition, accessories, etc. Should I go through Gunbroker or try some other options locally? Thanks for the feedback.

Yes, if Varified.

People pay that much for noncustome Glocks?

Wow.

I think you’ll get a bid if you follow the above advice. I’ve bought from new sellers.

IMHO, That early 17L is very much a niche item that would likely be of interest to a very small segment of the gun buying public. But there are a zillion Glock fans, so who knows. In any case, if I were expecting to net $2000.00 or more dollars, I would definitely list it on Gunbroker or similar, or consign it to one of the well known internet sellers who already have a good reputation and many sales under their belts......ymmv

Thanks for the advice, everyone. It looks like the extended verification requires faxing a copy of your DL and an electric bill to someone at Gunbroker. Anyone here done this? Anything to worry about with identity theft or security compromise? Thanks.

For those wondering about the practical value of these.

Keep a couple of things in mind, first there is a finite number of gen ones, and an even smaller number of the 17L's.....and perhaps more to the point, ALL Gen ones are pre-ban.

That verification procedure is new to me. I don't recall having to fax anything, and know for sure I didn't fax my DL. I signed up several years ago and have occasionally bought or sold an item on GB. Initially, I was uncertain about using GB, and sold this or that item that did not have great monetary value. I learned that GB really did work, so by the time I sold something of higher value, I already had positive feedback.

The verification process is a safe way for them to make sure you are who you say you are.
I have been selling on Gunbroker for over 10 years with no issues.
I fear if you do list it yourself with 0 feedback, you will lose buyers who are willing to spend $2000+.
Not all, but some. As you know, the more that want to bid, the higher the end price.
Also, if you have a reserve price (minimum you will accept), you will lose even more buyers. I will not bid on an
item that has a reserve price unless the reserve price has been met. A way to do it is to list it with a reserve of
$2000 (which isn't shown to the bidders) and see what the highest bid is (if it doesn't sell). Then you can decide
to relist it at a minimum bid of the last bid with no reserve or relist it with the same $2000 reserve. You can get a feel
for what the value is for a new seller.

If you decide to consign it to another seller with great reputation, you will get top dollar but have to pay him his fee
(10% to 15% of the selling price). Well regarded sellers may get you more (after his cut) than a new seller would get
by himself. Bottom line is you can play it safe with a high reserve to see what it's worth, without risk.

Anyone here done this?
Yes. I am a Verified Member. No problems from Gunbroker.

One guy won a bid. Didnt pay me. I didnt ship item. Gun Broker still received their commission. Only a small amount. So i didnt try to get help from Gun Broker.

Set your miminum price for the item. Keep reposting till its sold. Dont be in a hurry to sell. USPS money order works for me. Or a personal check, held 10 days to clear.

You will have to choose method of payment.

Another avenue for you to try would be GlockTalk. They have a Collectors forum with quite a few posters. There's a couple of very serious guys there that are straight shooters and will pay the going rate.

I’ve tried to join GlockTalk several times over the past year and it always ends up rejecting my account. It lets me create one for a few days, but will not let me post anything until the account is approved. Then I receive an email that says my account was not approved with no explanation for why. If you or anyone else is a member at GT and could pass along info. about the pistol, I would really appreciate it. Or if anyone can help with getting an account approved, I would also appreciate that.

Not a Glock guy, and don't feel like googling, so what's so special about a 17L?
Glock does fewer batches of the 17L, so they are a little bit less common than most other models. With the Gen 1 17L, Glock only imported 3000 of them before transitioning to a Gen 2 frame. This was in 1988, so there aren’t too many of those early models still floating around.

Long slide maybe? Adjustable sights.... A *Target* Glock?
At least, it looks long to me but my wife says my extrapolation skills *fall short*.

Wow! Very cool and very rare Glock! I wish you luck. I recall a guy on GlockTalk back in 2016 bought one of the few Gen 1 G19s made and paid around $7k for it. I believe other examples have surpassed the $10k mark.

I bought a G24c Gen 2 brand new when I first got into Glocks because I wasn't happy with the accuracy of the G22, which was my first Glock. I found it wholly inadequate for a carry gun due to the length and porting and sold it at a loss. Those are now sought after as well. I now have a Gen 4
G35 in FDE, which is the latest iteration of the long slide .40 S&W Glock. I used it for GSSF matches, but don't do those anymore. Will likely never sell it, though...

It's too ugly...

I had great luck on Gunbroker back in 2012 when I joined just to sell a JM Marlin 1894 in .357. I don't recall having to provide any documentation back then and sold it for over $1000.
