Of course they blame “lax laws” in neighboring states.
Besides some shotguns & evil black rifles, they showed off this interesting assortment of handguns at their photo-op. Wonder who got dibs on the 1911?

Lotta nickel and stainless. Flashy stuff. I hope those revolvers are import junk but sadly a few look like pieces I wouldn't hate having around... :(

Chicago is a large geographical area with numerous municipalities in it. Crime is generally concentrated in maybe a dozen or so communities, which are generally well known and avoided by most people who arent in the drug or gang lifestyle (some people are unfortunately stuck there suffering from the foolish behaviour of their kids). Anyway the constant refrain is the gun problem is due to lax gun laws in neighboring states. It's funny that those gun hot zones where anyone can find iron somehow don't have the same crime issues. Maybe it's something other than the guns...

Anyway, the numbers are in many ways meaningless. There have been occasional crackdowns in the past where federal charges were brought to put away illegal gun owners which seemed to be helpful. Each time though it made the local community extremely unhappy to see their kids getting locked up in far-away federal prisons, so they protest and vote out the politicians and police officials who ran the programs, then right back to the regularly scheduled program of crime and marches to save the streets. The sad truth of too many young criminals and gang members who ruin the communities where they live, but are still loved by their moms.
