I'm not sure if I like the v-notch sight on my Mark III Hunter.

It works well for quick shooting. And I've had tight groups in good light. But in the dim light of my indoor range, or dusk, it is harder for me to be consistent with alignment, especially with elevation. I'm using a FO front sight.

Here's an offhand target of 10-rounds at 10 yards, relatively quick fire. About 2.6 inches including the flyer. It's not dismal, but I know I can do better because I could tell I was inexact with sight alignment.

I was thinking about switching to a more traditional square rear blade, or am I missing a benefit of the v-notch?

No I think the square notch sights of the Mk III Target are a lot easier to work with at the range in good light, but I've not taken my Mk III Hunter out at dusk, maybe that's where it would shine.

I used to take my kids to the range along with both my Mk III Target and Hunter and we would dump 1000 rounds of bulk .22 at a session with me loading mags and letting them empty them. Without question they preferred the Mk III Target over the Hunter all day.

V notch is for quick aim, self defense, I had a Charles Daly Hi Power came with it, could not get used to it and sold the gun, the sight has a different cut from regular rear sight that I cannot just replace the sight. Square sight is far better for target shooting. Interesting to see it on a 22 which is unlikely used for self defense!

Especially when it is a "Hunter."

I think I'm going to swap it out.

Had a similar set up on my S&W 317 when I got it, and hated it. Swapped it out for a Patridge front and square notch rear. What a difference.

Im not opposed to the FO sights, but I would want the outline of the front to be sharp and square (S&W's arent), and the rear sight to have two dots on them, like a three dot set. Otherwise, plain would be better.
