whittling down my centerfire's

Ive definitely been on a .22 kick over the last couple of years- Springfield M1922, S&W M17, S&W M41, Ruger standard, SP101, Romanian M69....

The rimfires may be getting more range time, but the big boys are still in the wings, sighted in and waiting, waiting.......

I have simplified somewhat, not down too far though and mostly my handguns.
G42- when minimal carry is needed
G30-for regular carry
G20- for cooler weather, when i can get away with it
Gp100-general range beater
SRH toklat- general outdoors /camping/critter defense.

I do have other handguns but rarely use them, those 5 get all the action and i could thin the others but i think they'll just sit there clean and ready for years to come as they have for a few years now.
As far as rifles i use my henry 45-70 for anything that needs to be shot with a rifle or my marlin 336, yeah i have a ton of other rifles but they dont get used much if ever. So hard to get rid of guns i don't shoot but have thought about selling a few for one of those fancy big horn armory rifles.

Good for you triplebike. I have not done that yet but at age 68 I am making plans to eventually get the number down not that I own near as many as a lot of forum members. I like owning a variety of pistols even if I don't shoot some very much. I have "ranked' mine down to number 1 which would be the last I would ever dispose of if the need ever came to that but I don't see that ever happening. If I could have only three it would be my Gen 2 Glock 19, SIG P228, and HK P30L. However my actual minimal list would include my Walther PPS 9MM, SIG P226, and CZ SP01 Shadow.

I know what you are saying about shooting .22 LR. I recently bought a Browning Buckmark Camper Stainless and added a fiber optic front sight to it. The Buckmark fits my larger hands well, much better than my Ruger Standard, and is an outstanding shooter for me. I have a good stockpile of 22LR ammo including CCI Mini Mags. I also have an M&P 22 Compact that is an absolutely reliable fun little plinker that I hope to get the wife interested in shooting with.

Not really interested in whittling down my firearms collection.
I just turned 65 and fully intend to add to my collection of 50+ firearms...they are all going to my son when I am done with them. He already refers to them as his... doesn't bother me, we shoot together almost every weekend and reload our ammuntion together. He is 25 and also owns 15-18 firearms of his own.

I’m still adding more than subtracting, but with reasoning and purpose rather than just accumulating. I know in time I’ll get to reducing the lot,

I like to shoot a variety. Different strokes for different folks.

I've always shot 22's a lot, too. They're fun and inexpensive to shoot.

Although I'm definitely among those in the "Over Sixty" crowd, I haven't arrived at the point where I feel the need to whittle down my collection of handguns. I still like to look (and acquire), new and different guns, be it for concealed carry, home defense, or as a range toy.

To me "Everyday Carry" might be a Kahr CM9, a Ruger SR9c (excellent choice by the way), a CZ P01, or a CZ P07. For "Home Defense" I'm pretty well set with a SIG P229 with a laser/light combo mounted on it. My choice for a "Range Toy" is typically my Browning Hi-Power, a Colt Commander (.38 Super/9mm.), a Colt Combat Commander (.45), or a Colt Government (.45).

I also have a great Mk.II for target shooting, a Beretta Model 70S for plinking, a TacSol .22 conversion kit for a 1911, and a Kadet .22 conversion kit for the CZ P01.

I don’t whittle, but I like having guns in same “family” and that can share mags when possible. Also, my 22 collection has grown from 1 to 3 in last 6 months.

After I sell my Bersa Thunder 22 I will only have a Ruger EC9s for a handgun.
