I've never had the need, but wouldn't hesitate to shoot any of the bigger stuff in North America with them. I've seen several test results showing that combo out penetrating everything short of 375 mag. EVERYTHING, that includes the 33 and 35 caliber magnums as well as 45-70.

The 220 grain bullets are good for most anything in North America. I think they're a bit small for the large, dangerous bears if they decide to charge, but would probably work for sneaking up and shooting them when they're getting a drink.

They will work for anything smaller as well, but a lighter bullet will do fine and be easier on your shoulder.

There will be a zero change in your sights.

Im currently playin around with the 200 grain barnes for my double gun in 30-06. Should be a wicked penetrator with that all copper bullet. If they offered a 220 id buy it, though it would likely end up too long for magazine rifles. Whats the toughest .308 bullet in 220 grain out there?

Anyone still shoot the these out of their 06? I shoot em when Elk, Moose hunting. Gonna use em on Griz when I get drawn. I keep the shots within 225 yards,. The 4 elk I have shot and 1 moose all dropped within 20 yards of being hit.
Seems like a freight train plowing into them when hit.

Which 220gr bullet are you using? I've been using 180gr, but I'm considering trying to find a good load for 200gr Accubonds next year. I only hunt elk and smaller, so 220gr would probably be a bit too much of a good thing for my uses.

I shot some out of my old M17 sporter and a Mosin Nagant. They were part of an odd lot of .308 bullets I purchased from a forum member to experiment /plink with. Cool water in the hot desert during the great component shortage! Mine were the Remington variety, old stock in the red and green box. Never put any into a game animal, but they were quite impressive on large blocks of wood and frozen milk jugs. Split some 12" oak logs with them. Despite being a poor match for the bore diameter, accuracy was not bad out of the Mosin either.

I load my own. I use Remington Core Lokt bullets.

For moose I loaded 200 Partitions, my Dad loaded 220 Partitions, same caliber, .300 Win. Mag. I never got to test mine on a moose, I was lining up the reticle on one when my dad shot his, and it was only one moose per license, we had 4 of us on it. Although the first shot, and all 4 following he took, were fatal shots, the moose didn't drop immediately. (hence the other 4) The Partitions all went through (it was only 50 yards and under), the exit holes were bigger than the entry holes.

Personally, I MUCH prefer the 200 grain bullets in a 30-06, especially 200NP's...

I like the little extra speed they give over 220's, and the 200NP's will still plow on in and most times through a moose or brown bear...

Our of a 30/06 the 180/200/220 all have a good rep on larger critters. With the correct bullet construction they will all shoot through a decent sized feral hog end to end. That's my test for adequate for anything that's not thick skinned.

I know someone who uses 220 Core Lokt 30-06 on Black Bear and we've recovered every bear he's hit. Even one that I'll was hit with much less than ideal shot placement. They work good. I doubt I will ever see him with a different bullet in his rifle.

220g corelocks are brutal on deer, a hole the size of your fist,

dad used them on black bear in Alberta, worked really well.

Which means they are too fragile for big boned animals...

I've seen 220's come a part on frontal shots on caribou, IMO they are too soft for bigger big game, especially for tougher shots!

I like RN bullets ... 150gr RN in my 270
180gr RN in my 30-06
I have shot a box or two 220gr through my Savage 110 30/06 .. Seemed to be accurate best I can remember.. But only shot cardboard targets no game.

I think the 30-30 and 35 Rem got there reputation for killing game is because of the RN projectiles they use
