Don't know what size you need but ACE does have a good selection out my way as well. You can put a slight bow into the replacement, helps keep it from walking out. Thats what i do, not sure if thats the correct way - or some locktite could help. i have had this issue too.

This is a shot in the dark, but I believe this is the right pin, maybe? IIRC all the Smith's use the same size roll pin in the front sight. It used to be a solid pin,but they have changed to a roll pin. My model 60 had the solid pin and it fell out dry firing so I did some Google Fu and came up with this pin and it worked perfect. I'm 99% sure it's .55-.056. I bought it in may ,but not sure where I got it from, maybe Brownells? Hopefully this helps. I bought two to have a back up since it was a butt to find.

Wow, yeah that looks about right.

I ordered some on Dec 2nd... They came last Saturday. The shipping is crap BUT I was able to fix my revolver and put a low profile HI VIZ green sight on it. It clears from the holster easier now and was at my side at church yesterday. She's back where she belongs at my side and no I ain't talking about no woman

I would sure like to know what size punch you used to remove the pin , that pin is way tiny , smaller than any punch I have..........

I believe I started it with a small brass/nylon hammer untill it was about flush, than finished it with an Allen wrench , holding the long side and using the short side to drive. It's an oddball size and they do make punches for it. I think Brownells has one.

Or you can put a 1/16" punch in your handheld drill and spin it while you grind it down slowly with a bench grinder. Will come out relatively uniform doing it this way. Only need to cut about .012-.013" off it.

the DX or Spring loaded front sight system, I lost the factory roll pin
Sorry I'm so late to this thread, but I'm a bit confused at the above statement and was hoping for some clarification. I understand that on the DX models the front sight is spring loaded from the rear and forward movement to halted by the roll pin which is crossed mounted in the front sight base.

When you replace the front sight blade, you don't need to remove the roll pin. All you do is push the blade to the rear, against the spring pressure, to allow it's forward extension to clear the roll pin, then you tilt the sight blade backwards before removing it forward out of the slot.

Why would you remove the roll pin?

I didn't know all that at first. I took a sight that was not the right size to the gunsmith he took out the roll pin and it expanded so it would no longer fit inside. I had to order a new roll pin regardless at that point.
