Very good. This small case could have large implications.

From the article:

"Among others things, applicants must appear for an in-person interview; return waivers indicating all members of their household consent to having a gun present; and pass criminal and mental health background checks."

It's insane that you need to make all of these criteria to keep a gun in your own home.

If Pro-2nd Amendment folks win we may in fact lose if you still need to meet all of these requirements.

Imagine if you had to present waivers from other members of your household before registering to vote or buying a book or joining (or leaving) a church.
If you had to apply for permission to join a church, and have to wait two weeks.
And then needed a permit to complain about it.
Or get permission to complain to the press, or make a social media posting.
That, after the authorities scooped you up and jailed you for your actions--it was because you failed to have the proper Identity cards.

It's all too easy to apply the restrictions upon the 2nd to the other BOR (barring, 9th & 10th). Sadly, there are those who would embrace such restirctions, to yield liberty for imagined security.

This lawsuit involves a rather narrow area of the New York City firearms ordinance/s.

"The dispute centers on New York’s handgun “premises” licenses that allowed holders to transport their firearm only to a handful of shooting ranges within the city, and to hunting areas elsewhere in the state during designated hunting seasons.

The transport rule was amended in July to specifically allow for a gun to be taken to a range or other residence outside the city. The city unsuccessfully asked the Supreme Court to cancel the arguments and drop the case because the amendment removed the provision being challenged.

The New York State Rifle and Pistol Association filed the lawsuit in 2013 along with three city residents who were told by authorities they could not participate in a shooting competition in New Jersey or bring their guns to a home elsewhere in the state. "

That lawsuit may have been rendered moot since NY City changed their ordinance.

"Officials at both the city and state level scrambled to find a way to remove the case from the justices’ grasp. Not only did the city change its regulation to allow licensed gun owners to transport their weapons to locations outside New York’s five boroughs, but the state enacted a law barring cities from imposing the challenged restrictions.

“There is no case or controversy because New York City has repealed the ordinance and the New York state Legislature has acted to make sure it remains repealed,” said Jonathan Lowy, chief counsel and vice president of the gun control group Brady’s legal action project.

But those moves failed to get the court to dismiss the case, although the justices are likely to ask at arguments about whether there’s anything left for them to decide."

It may soon come to the point where we here in Virginia envy New Yorkers for the gun freedoms they have! In New York the antis went after what they wanted gradually, over many years. In Virginia they are going for it all at once!

I'm glad I no longer live in NYC and no longer have to deal with this foolishness. I left in 2001 and it has gone down hill massively since then.
I hear ya, I left in 1974 to go to college. Went back a few times for family visits at Christmas, but glad I got out when I did.
