October-November 2019 AK/SKS vs MINI 14/30 vs M1 carbine 10 shot challenge

M1 Carbine, 1.1M Winchester with post war mods, It's a DCM gun from around 1960.
Class 3, off bags
I score it 95-1x
Reloads: 14.5gr H110, 110gr gun show FMJs, Win SR primers.

The gun shoots good groups but wants to walk shots to the left. I started aiming center and had to keep moving the sights right until the last shot was aimed at the edge of the black at 3 o'clock; that's the one I scored as an X.

Wow! Better than any group I've ever shot with garands or carbines. I mostly shoot steel while running around though.

My 03-A3 and Garand shoot better than the Carbine when I take the time to memorize where the bull is before I change focus to the front sight, especially at range. I shoot mostly High Power and the CMP vintage rifle games so shooting at 100 yds, off bags, slow fire doesn't give me many excuses.

impressive!

Some good M1 and SKS entries in the last posts, I took Merle's advice and ordered some Golden Tiger to try, too late to enter it in my Russian SKS since I already posted a entry but will let you know who it does.

if you can find any Golden Tiger, give it a try.
a number of folks (including me) have found it to be superior.
took your advice and tested Golden Tiger in the Russian SKS, it does seem to do better but there are always shots that go wide once the gun warms up, 10 shot test was a low shooting group, so if I use the ammo from now on I'll have to sight it in again.

I just don't get the groups in my two SKS that some of you do and I have tried several brands. 100_2729.JPG

Norinco SKS, have tried several brands, today did 10 shots of Tula score 85, Red Army and Golden Tiger score 86, Red Army did the best

my SKS is a Romanian, and every single brand of ammo requires a sight change - sometimes just going fro HP to FMJ is a big difference - it drives me nuts being so picky!

My experience is many guns are like that from AR-15, to lever actions and so on. Last month took friends shooting, they bought Federal .223 to shoot in my AR, they kept missing the gong, gave them Winchester 5.56 ammo that it is sighted in to and they never missed the gong after.

This looks like an 89 unless I'm missing something?

Also, I score 73 on the 2nd target

whoops my mistake, used the calculator again you are correct 89, must have hit too many on the calculator first time lol. Was a long day shooting, 5 hours worth kinda tired t the time

Can't find the target I did at the range rested, might have left it there so I'll just post a target I did months ago for info sake, it is not a entry. M1 carbine blue sky import from south Korea back from the late 80's , person I bought it from then must have replace the stock no way it is original to the gun. It would be a score of 92 if I was entering but I'm not, the one recent that I lost was similar no idea what the score was. 100_1134.jpg IMG_6242.JPG

Glad Merle mentioned Golden Tiger ammo, worked well in my SAR-1 AK, better than 124 gr Tula and Red Army which shot higher. However 122 gr Tula and Red Army has shot well in it but 124 gr is all I had.

Alright friends went through the entries, some fine entries and scores thanks to all who entered. Surprised no one entered with a scoped or optic was hoping to see what a AK, SKS and MINI 14 would show with optics. BUT anyone can add later after the fact if you wish.

congrats to

class 1 standing, Garrett with a Norinco AK in .223 score 84-1X
class 3 rested with iron sights, MuntinousDoug with a Winchester M1 carbine score 95-1X
