6.5 Wby RPM

one thing I didn't notice about the wby link till now is how dumbed down most the the loads they spec for the other cartridges are..... except the PRC, which is pretty close.

How do you like the 6.5 PRC for accuracy & overall round? I'm really liking that round!

We have a member here who claims to get that out of a 6.5 Creedmoor. You must not know how to reload.;)
 
Having been into .264 Win Mag for 40 years ; ho hum !. The 6.5-.300 Weatherby is over the top , unless you want the fastest !!! This one looks pretty limited niche. Another .224 Weatherby, which although quite a good round, which I usaed 20 years, is deader than a doornail.
 
There should be a 6.5 for every case :confused:. I'm surprised there's any 6.5 bullets left on any shelves the way that manufacturers are flocking to it these days.

I'll see your 6.5-378 and up you to 6.5-404.

Had an acquaintance that had a .30-378. Barrel life was 800 rounds. Barrel cost was more per shot than ammunition cost. Never was shot without a muzzle brake. Loud.

Years ago Handloader Magazine talked about a .30-.50 cal they built. Barrel life on it was 50 rounds IIRC.

Remember that a 25% increase in powder gives you a 10% increase in velocity, the remaining energy is used to generate muzzle blast and burn out your barrel

Youll have to check with @troy fairweather as I gave the gun to him, but my experience was that it never fired a group over MOA (that i remember). I wasnt TRYING to shoot tiny groups or loading for accuracy since i wasnt even close to what i wanted velocity wise. Ill explain the velocity thing in my answer to H&H

Honestly IVE gotten better velocity from my 6.5CMs than my initial loads (which went up to book max) were getting from the 6.5PRC....and i was using a 2" shorter barrel in the CM LOL....Im not brave enough to run my guns hot enough to reach some of the quoted velocites, i blew primers with rl-17 and 147s
Besides the weird ejector marks, there was zero pressure signs. I DID eventually achieve the velocity i was looking for, which was anything over 3000 from the guns 24" but I was way off reservation to get there. I STILL didnt see any pressure signs besides the ejector marks.
Over all i LIKED the gun and cartridge, and if i didnt already have a very nice 6.5-284 id have likely kept it.

Now the 6.5Wby does interest me somewhat, as does the .264Winchester. Ive got nearly every spicyness of 6.5 (yes ill be getting another CM to fill the "original" ) besides insanity. So honestly im looking at something thats a little nastier than the Wby...perhaps a 26nosler/6.5NPRC bassed on a full length .300prc/375Ruger.....or go oldish school and do a 6.5STW
After that ill start building saucing up the .284s....
 
I will give the 6.5 prc a go, if I don't like it I was thinking to ream it out to 6.5wsm. I really like the m18 I think they did good on it. The one little problem thing with it I fixed me now it's nice. I'd still like a 7rem mag one day may e an run the stw reamer into it. But I the real world for sharing the slower speed is fine.

I’m an accurate and suitable reloader. Is the velocity suitable? Is the load consistently accurate? Once those two questions are answered I stop load development and start killing stuff. I quit trying to squeeze every last millisecond of velocity out of a round after a couple of my buddies had some scary “almosts”. To me it’s just not worth the trouble. I do fully understand wanting to see what a round is capable of and I HATE when a rifle won’t make book velocities. So I get it and I’ve BTDT.

To get back the 6.5 RPM... I just don’t get it. Yet another oddity headed towards obscurity is my guess.

Id have to agree. With the PRC stealing the new market share of the 3-3100fps range already, the .264WM still being around and available for folks wanting a belted mag, and being a weird and unique case design.
I dont seeing it having a great deal of market share.
Im pretty sure WBY is aware of this, or should be, so Id guess they specifically WANT the attributes of THIS round for a specific rifle as suggested earlier. As long as they are willing to back the round even if sales arnt fantastic, I think it would be a great addition to the ultralight hunting rifles.
