Certainly accurate enough for target shooting though sight adjustability is limited.
Then, you just fall back to Kentucky Windage known for a particular ammo.
I tink all things being equal - aside from sights, maybe finish and sometimes the mag catch - they should shoot the same.

My Dads Huntsman was the first (and only) handgun he bought, and it’s the first handgun I ever shot. That was back in about 1975 in the desert outside Las Vegas just West of where Rainbow Road and Washington Avenue meet now.

My Dad still has it, but I think he’s going to give it to my sister. I bought a MkI Ruger partly because it reminded me a bit of the old Colt.

Yours is very nice, congrats!

Stay safe.

Just picked one up 98% cond. are they accurate as a target pistol and recommended ammo if anyone knows?

I have a Huntsman, a few Woodsman Match Targets, Colt Ace’s, and a Passel of High Standards. Now I don’t punch paper, I prefer plinking, steel, and other reactionary targets. Having said that, I can shoot them all equally accurate. I’m sure paper would tell a different tale.

My uncle had a woodsman and huntsman I shot both at bottles often when I visited him. We used cheap brick ammo and it was minute of can. It’s all about how accurate you need it to be. It will do well at what it was made for. I don’t think it’s a Olympic accurate no.

Did the huntsman come with plastic grips??

I believe they did come with plastic or wood straight from the factory depending on the date of mfg. Or maybe it was an entry level thing, I can't remember.

I have had a Colt Targetsman since the early60’s. Great gun. Don’t think you will have any trouble finding ammo that performs well. Try Remington, copper plated, round nose, or hollow point. Don’ understand why someone hasn’ picked up the patent on this and put it back into production as it is a fine pistol. Stay safe!

Because it wouldn't have the "Colt" name and Pony that everyone seems to adore. Great design but so are the Ruger Mark's for much less $$$.

I'd love to see Colt come out with a new Woodsman. But there's quiet a few used ones out there that can be had for cheap if you keep your eye out. Also a fan of the old High Standards.

My Huntsman has wood grips.
One of my Target Woodsman has Plastic grips. While the other Target Woodsman has wooden grips, I believe they are after market because they are fancy Olympic style.

I read decades ago to use standard velocity. Probably a good round would be a 40 gr. lead. HV may be ok, but I know not to use HV in a Match Target Colt.
While I like standard in most any .22, Colt themselves added a warning stamp to Woodsman pistols.
If it is cross-hatched as the one on the right - it is most decidedly Standard Velocity only while HV is *OK* when the stamp is lines only as on the left.
Standard Velocity guns can be upgraded to the HV but it takes a higher rated spring and the later case hardened main spring housing.

I had a Huntsman, but hounded my Dad to trade it in on a 1960s Woodsman MT for the adjustable sights and sexy fluted rectangular barrel.

I shoot it with my stock of Wolf and SK Match which will not even cycle a M41 or HS.

Always liked the graceful styling of the Colt .22 target pistols, along with the Browning Nomad. Unfortunately they were long out of production before I was old enough and had the money to buy one. Not that I'm complaining mind you as I have been very pleased and content with a number of Ruger .22 target pistols over the years.
