Do you name your guns?

My wife calls my AR ‘the black plastic one...’ ... but what she doesn’t know is how many black plastic AR’s I have, since they all look the same

I’ve always considered naming a gun, a motorcycle, a vehicle, etc, a little odd. That is not to say giving something a nickname is unusual... I call my XR650 the ‘Torque-a-Saurus’ because it’s geared for the mountains, but that isn’t any sort of formal name. I’ve seen on both firearm and motorcycle forums posters that actually NAME their stuff... and refer to it as such. Just odd...

The first... even though I have a strong feeling that I am wrong...
Socko/sah-ko is correct. But who cares, I still call Luepold's "Lee-a-polds". Some guys are sticklers. I am not one of those guys.

Sorry for the derailment. Naming guns "Sally" etc is stupid. I recall a scene from Full Metal Jacket where the Marine was required to name his firearm. Could have been a reality back in the day? I'd still call mine "Em Fourteen".

I call my S&W 327 Night Guard “Brutus”.
That’s the only one I have named.
Coincidentally it’s the one handgun I own that my wife can shoot well. So if I mention Brutus she knows exactly what I am talking about, where it is, how to shoot it and how to reload it.
That’s a good thing.

Wait that's not how you say Leupold? Is it loo pold?
Loo-pold is correct according to the very nice German lady I spoke with.
Those are child's play...... but now when I pull out one of my H&K guns I tense up a little and hope noooobody asks any questions. Lol
Ha! True. I always hear "Kotch" instead of....the rooster. Coke is correct.

I always thought lee-a-pold was the snobby way to say it when I was a kid. I was not gifted how to say words correctly, I think it was all them weird words my grandmother would speak that messed me up. She was Welsh, there language is weird.

I am going to give a quick glimpse of me by answering this question.

I cannot see naming any construct. It is too close to idolatry to me. I name those things God has given us, like my dog, but not something made by hands.

I realize some will try to lawyerball this to try to show some inconsistency, but I know where my boundaries lie. So, no, I don't name cars, houses, guns, or other constructs.

Edited to add that, as I read this thread I see some of you referencing "fun" names. That I can understand. I was thinking of anthropomorphic names as I said "no." Yes, "the .44 mag carbine" is a name, and no I do not see that as idolatry. My statement was to the use of anthropomorphic names for constructs (oh, and my dog's name is Wilbur).

Of course I do. Guns have feeling too ya know.I even talk to them, especially when shooting or lubing them. You got to get to know your guns well. Talk to them, make them relax, when they are about to perform a hard task, give them encouragement. "Come on, Lady, you know you can do this girl" etc. I will be taking Lola, and Chico to the range tomorrow. Doc already knows he will be getting a small workout Sat and Sun. Why? because he goes to every range day and gets one. And he is always rearing to go. Faithful little sucker. By my side each day, like a shadow.

I am not talking to seriously. I'm taiking like silly stuff. Like I had a friend in college who had the maroon/purple-ish Saturn station wagon, he called it, "the purple punisher". I always thought that was funny.

Or like in the first Hellboy he had that huge revolver that he called, "the Samaritan", I think he had like a grenade launcher in the second movie called, "big baby" or something.

Never thought about naming my guns. Just simply refer to them (among family) as The Colt .45, the Legion, or a model number.

I did have a guy in a unit in which I served who referred to his rifle as "Meet your 72 virgins, mother------" ...

Some Inanimate objects, guns, tools, cars, trucks etc are occasionally referred to as that Piece of S..t but other wise only the wife, kids, dogs and cats get proper, pet and or “nick” names. :)

 That might be construed as impolite these days.

I have named inanimate objects as a term of endearment, but usually I don’t. Like I said before I call one of my favorite revolvers “Brutus” because it is tough and funny looking and it reminded me of Brutus my pet Bassett Hound when I was a kid.

I do not find fault or laugh at people that name things like guns, cars, planes, boats, etc.
It’s theirs. Who cares?
I also don’t find fault with people who don’t name things for the same reason.

I did name my deck boat “No Shop Talk” and my bass boat was called “Talk Shop and Swim”. I guess that counts as naming objects. ;)

I have only given names to the ones I have created and use the names given to others by their creator. Unless they have created a POS then I do an unofficial name change, this way in frustration you don’t even need to access memory because the name applies across the board to many different devices.

I have not named all of my guns. They usually just get called "the" and maker or model number or caliber. Marlin, Ruger, C96, CZ52, Forty, Thurty-thurty.

I did have a Winchester 69A I called "Winnie"; my son has it now. He calls it "the gun I first learned to shoot with" or "Dad's old gun".

Although I have pondered naming my motorcycles, several guns, etc. never have. I guess if it happens, it happens. I guess the only exceptions are 1) my favorite rifle, formerly dads model 98 Mauser which I have slowly evolved into my favorite hunting rifle. It is simply...The Mauser.
2) Kind of a generic name for whatever handgun I am carrying....referred to as my "American Express"...(don't leave home without it).
