If you happen to own a Competition Electronics Chronograph, and you end up changing camps... you know, one day you're in the "I'd never shoot my chronograph. How do guys even do that?" camp, and suddenly find yourself in the "Oh. Now I get it" camp, keep the corpse.

Competition Electronics has a policy that they will repair any chronograph for 1/2 the current price of the same model.

So if you find yourself filling out your tag during chrono season, make sure you keep the carcass to send in.

Please don't ask how I know this.

I have bought other people's chronos. Seen shot, or shot myself, maybe half a dozen skysccreen style downrange chronos.

Magnetospeed now.

If your really concern about shooting your crony use a Laser bore sighting tool to see where the bullet path is. When set mine up I first setup the gun in the position it will me in. Then I align it looking backwards through the scope ( or rifle bore), remember they black out if you off too much. I then move to the bench with the scope on low power, tilt the back of the gun up to check to see if I'm centered, and adj accordingly. The next step is to check at what height the bullet will pass over the unit. I like to be a minimum of 4". Been doing this procedure ever since I got it. I do this with the sun screens on.

I even move my crony to the target to get actual velocity at range. I always confirm my zero before doing this to make sure I have the correct bullet drop.

One time early on I nicked an antler. I keep using that antler as a reminder to be careful of the body.
You can extend the life of your chrono by using wooden chopsticks in place of the metal wires. My diligent research has shown that metal wires get forced around and can break the plastic housing, whereas the chopsticks simply splinter in-place.

And chopsticks usually come with fortune cookie. :D

Never got a good center mass hit but I did hit one of the "antlers". I hit it with a 4290421 at approx 1150 fps and it disappeared down range and I never found it. I found an appropriate diameter dowel and replaced the metal rods with wood. I keep extras in the box with the chrony...

I was lucky when I shot my Pro. Just a flesh wound! It kept right on working, even with a fickle On-Off switch. Then I shot it again 2 years later, and that time it was a fatal wound!:( Funny thing both times I shot it, it was with my G23! Go figure! Maybe the chrono or the Glock was trying to tell me something!:)
